MLB Player Props for Friday, June 7

The 2024 MLB season is in full swing and we continue to come at it from a bunch of different directions. This season, VSiN Managing Editor Adam Burke will have you covered when it comes to MLB sides and totals in his daily best bets column. You’ll also get some First Five Inning analysis from Jonathan Von Tobel. On top of that, our analytics guru Steve Makinen will feed you some interesting trends and systems on a daily basis. But I’ll be focusing specifically on MLB player props this season, dishing out at least three per day every Monday to Friday. With that in mind, let’s get into the plays for Friday, June 7th.

Minnesota Twins at Pittsburgh Pirates – 6:40 pm ET

Mitch Keller might never touch last year’s 25.5% strikeout rate again, but 21.2% isn’t terrible and he’s still a guy that can take advantage of the right matchups. Well, this definitely qualifies as a good matchup for the righty. Last year, Minnesota had the highest strikeout rate in the league against righties. And while the number has come way down in 2024, one would think it’s capable of rising throughout this season. Keller also happens to be coming into this start after having struck out at least six batters in four of his last seven outings. So, he has been missing some bats lately. I’m also expecting Keller to be dialed in here, as he needs to do his part in giving the Pirates a chance against Joey Ryan.

Pick: Keller Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-125 – 1.5 units)

Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Yankees – 7:05 pm ET

Cody Poteet has pitched well in two starts this season. On April 13th, Poteet threw 6.0 innings of one-run ball against the Cleveland Guardians, and he pitched 5.0 innings and gave up only two earned against the San Francisco Giants on June 1st. But Poteet is now going up against a Dodgers team that has the third-highest wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season. Los Angeles also happens to have a few hitters that can easily take advantage of the short porch in right field. That said, I see this being a game in which Poteet runs into some trouble for the Yankees.

Pick: Poteet Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-125)

Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals – 8:15 pm ET

Austin Gomber can be a very profitable pitcher to bet on the props market. And I have really enjoyed backing the lefty in road starts this year. Gomber has a 3.00 ERA in six road starts this season, so he’s generally pretty effective when pitching away from home. Tonight, I’m going with Gomber to pitch at least 6.0 innings against the Cardinals. Gomber got chased pretty early in a start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 2nd, but this is a much better matchup for him. Only two teams in baseball have a lower wRC+ against left-handed pitching than St. Louis this year. This Cardinals team just doesn’t like facing southpaws. With that in mind, I’m expecting Gomber to eat a bunch of innings in this start. Last year, Gomber threw 6.0 shutout innings against the Cardinals in this stadium.

Pick: Gomber Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-114 – 2 units)
