Cornell vs. La Salle
6:30 p.m. ET
La Salle lost four of their top five scorers from a season ago, and even though Cornell had an offseason coaching change, with the in-house hire of assistant and former standout player Jon Jacques, they maintained much of last year and a high-tempo offense that seeks to generate turnovers in volume on defense.
College Basketball Best Bet: Cornell +5 (Greg’s Handicap Cornell -2.5)
Monmouth vs. Northern Illinois
7:00 p.m. ET
Whale Western Illinois transfer James Dent Jr. has helped Northern Illinois in the early going on offense, the team is still a work in progress with trying to replace each of last season’s top seven scorers in total points and face a Monmouth squad that suffered a pair of north of 25 point losses to Michigan State and Temple to begin the season, but the step down in competition along with Northern Illinois ranking 329th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage will be a welcome sight.
College Basketball Best Bet: Monmouth +1.5 (Greg’s Handicap Monmouth -4.5)
Tarleton State vs Florida State
7:00 p.m. ET
Jamir Watkins is going to be the best player on the court in this game, scoring 47 points in the first two games this season after leading Florida State in scoring a season ago. Still, when Florida State was successful and consistently making the NCAA Tournament pre-COVID, it was due to being nine or 10 players deep in their rotation and currently have only two players averaging more than seven points per game. That Florida State unit has to face a defense that they are unfamiliar with and feasts on turnovers, with Tarleton in the top 36 nationally in turnovers forced on a per possession basis in all four of their season at the Division I level
College Basketball Best Bet: Tarleton State +17.5 (Greg’s Handicap Tarleton State +11)
Norfolk State vs. William & Mary
7:00 p.m. ET
William & Mary has sped up significantly under new coach Dan Earl, who had Cornell 64th in the country in possessions per game while William & Mary was 353rd. The team still has a lot of last season’s pieces from that slow tempo unit and face a Norfolk State defense that allowed a 38.9% opponents goal shooting percentage last season, which ranked 20th in the country.
College Basketball Best Bet: Norfolk State vs. William & Mary Under 157 (Greg’s Projected Total 148)
Binghamton vs. Fordham
7:00 p.m. ET
Fordham is coming off of a big win over the weekend against Seton Hall, but that might say more about how lackluster Seton Hall might be than how good Fordham is, as the Rams last season ranked 288th in points scored on a per possession basis and 341st in field goal shooting percentage and are picking up right where they left off last season, averaging 58.5 points per game through their first two games this season.
College Basketball Best Bet: Binghamton +12.5 (Greg’s Handicap Binghamton +7.5)
