Peterson: Best bet for Oklahoma State vs. Oral Roberts

162

Following a magical run to the Sweet 16 last season, Oral Roberts has gotten off to a rough start this season with losses in both of their games against Division I teams They'll hope to bounce back on Friday against in-state foe Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State Cowboys (-10, 150.5) at Oral Roberts Golden Eagles
(stats as of Thursday morning)

After leading the country with 24.5 points per game last season, Max Abmas has been off the mark so far this season, logging just 17.8 points per game thus far. Kevin Obanor, who helped him out with 18.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, transferred to Texas Tech in the offseason.

Oklahoma State is a team that embraces the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Nobody on the team is averaging more than 10.3 points per game, but nine players are contributing at least 6.5 points per game for a team that does not rely on the 3-point shot.

Just 20 percent of Oklahoma State’s points are coming from made 3-pointers, which is 343rd out of 358 DI teams. It isn't just about offense, as OSU is also fifth in the country in steals generated on a per-possession basis on defense.

With Oral Roberts 350th in the country in points allowed on a per-possession basis while Oklahoma State ranks eighth, the Cowboys will continue the grim return to reality for the Golden Eagles.

Pick: Oklahoma State -10
