Fierceness would be first to win from No. 17 in 150-year history of Kentucky Derby

Post positions have been drawn for the 150th Kentucky Derby to be run on Saturday, May 4th, at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

Based on the running style of each entrant, several colts are expected to benefit from their position in the starting gate, including pre-race favorite Fierceness, who drew the 17 post, which should give the fast breaker a clear outside run to the first turn, providing he beats the fast Resilience out of the gate from post 19. (No horse has ever won the Derby from the 17 slot.)

Forever Young, the Japanese import, will break from post 11 which should keep him out of early trouble. Honor Marie drew post 7. His tactical speed should allow him to dictate his run to the turn. Those not faring as well include popular Dornoch, who drew the dreaded 1 hole, and his neighbor, the popular Sierra Leone who will break from post 2.
