LAS VEGAS – SuperContest registration for the 2019 football season begins Friday, March 1, at the Westgate Las Vegas, four months earlier than in recent years.
This is being done to make entry available to the huge crowds that come to town for March Madness as well as the rest of the spring and summer.

We first reported this on Twitter @ViewFromVegas & @VSiNLive in January when Jay Kornegay, VP of race & sports book operations at Westgate, announced it at the “big check” ceremonies for last season’s SuperContest champions. Eric Kahane, 44, of Irvine, Calif., won a record $1,422,214.20 (plus another $7,500 with the “1st Half Bonus” as co-leader through the first eight weeks of the NFL season) by topping the record field of 3,123 in the SuperContest Classic using the alias of Personal Gourmet. George King, 60, of Las Vegas, won $640,000 in the winner-take-all SuperContest Gold as the appropriately named There Can Be Only One.
VSiN’s very own, Brent Musburger, will be on hand at 10 a.m. PT to register as the first entry (presumably two). Entry for SuperContest Classic is $1,500 with a limit of two entries per person and Kornegay also announced they will again pay the top 100 finishes. SuperContest Gold costs $5,000 and is remaining winner-take-all.
Note: even though the Westgate is welcoming entries from the March Madness crowd, they’re limiting signups during the very busy opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament (most of the proxies have been advised of this schedule, so arrange to meet with them at these times to register): 9-11 a.m. PT on Wednesday, March 20; 7-9 p.m. PT on Thursday through Sunday, March 21-24.
Also of note on the 2019 football contest front is the Golden Nugget is moving up the start of its registration for the Ultimate Football Challenge ($1,000 entry fee, now a maximum of three entries per person, college and pro sides) to Friday, March 8.
More Contests: March Madness and MLB
Just like last year, the Westgate is having a March Madness contest called Hoops Central Showdown and a Baseball Season Wins Challenge that also open for registration on Friday, March 1, and available for Vegas visitors at this time of year.
Hoops Central Showdown costs $200 per entry (maximum three per person) and players make picks against the contest spread for 28 first-round games being played on Thursday and Friday, March 21-22. Important note (beware of several people were shut out last year by not paying attention to this part of the rules): registration closes and all selections must be made on the contest kiosks by 10 p.m. PT on Wednesday, March 20.
You’ll note only 28 games are used as the First Four games from Tuesday and Wednesday and the games involving those winners on Thursday and Friday are not used in the contest. The Westgate takes a $10 administrative fee from each entry (5%) and the champion will win 50% of the remaining prize pool with 30% for second and 20% for third.
The Baseball Season Wins Challenge costs $250 per entry (maximum three per person) and players pick either Over or Under each team’s season win total. There is a $12.50 administrative fee taken from each entry (5%) and the champion will win 50% of the remaining prize pool, 30% of second and 20% for third. Last year, VSiN fan Jason Dauman, a music executive from Los Angeles went 22-8 with his over/under picks and won the first-place prize of $11,800.
Last Man Standing: The locals casino giant, Station Casinos, will again offer its Last Man Standing contest ($25 entry fee, buy four get one free, eliminated with loss, winner-take-all prize to last remaining player, guaranteed minimum prize of $50,000) during the NCAA Tournament. This is geared more toward locals as contestants must put their plays in person for every day of the NCAA Tournament (Thursday through Sunday, March 21-24, of opening weekend; Thursday through Sunday, March 28-31, of Sweet 16 and regional finals; then Final Four on Saturday, April 6; and national title game on Monday, April 8, if necessary. I made it to the Final Four last year, so anyone can do it!
