MLB Player Props for Tuesday, April 30th

The 2024 MLB season is finally here. After another wild offseason and an exciting couple of weeks of Spring Training, we’re ready for some games that matter. This season, VSiN Managing Editor Adam Burke will have you covered when it comes to MLB sides and totals in his daily best bets column. You’ll also get some First Five Inning analysis from Jonathan Von Tobel. On top of that, our analytics guru Steve Makinen will feed you some interesting trends and systems on a daily basis. But I’ll be focusing specifically on MLB player props this season, dishing out at least three per day every Monday to Friday. With that in mind, let’s get into the plays for Tuesday, April 30th.

New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles – 6:30 pm ET

Adley Rutschman is batting .316 with three doubles, four homers and 17 RBIs this season. And as always, the young slugger is getting it done from both sides of the plate. But he’s especially productive against southpaws, as he’s batting . 442 with two doubles, three bombs and 14 RBIs against them. So, I like Rutschman to get to Nestor Cortes in tonight’s game. Rutschman is 6 for 12 with a double against Cortes, but he doesn’t have a single RBI against the lefty. That just feels like something that is bound to change soon, as Rutschman clearly enjoys this matchup. And the reason for that is that fastballs and cutters make up most of Cortes’ pitch distribution. And Rutschman crushes anything that doesn’t qualify as an offspeed pitch.

Pick: Rutschman Over 2.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (+110)

Washington Nationals at Texas Rangers – 8:05 pm ET

Only eight teams in the league have a lower strikeout percentage than the Rangers. However, Texas has the sixth-highest strikeout rate (26.2%) in the league against left-handed pitching. So, this team does struggle to make contact against southpaws, and that could mean a big performance from MacKenzie Gore tonight. Gore has only struck out four batters in back-to-back starts, but he has impressive swing-and-miss stuff. In fact, he had at least six strikeouts in each of his first three starts this year. And Gore had an 11-strikeout performance against the Oakland Athletics on April 13th. Gore also has the highest strikeout rate of his career this year, and his hard hit percentage is down at 34.3% after back-to-back years in the 40s. He’s really in a nice groove and I expect him to take advantage of this matchup.

Pick: Gore Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-145)

Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks – 9:40 pm ET

I thought about taking Ketel Marte to go Over 2.5 hits, runs and RBIs, but I feel a little better about him going Over 1.5 total bases. I just like his chances of picking up an extra base hit in this game. So, I don’t want to have to worry about his teammates getting on base or driving him in. After all, Marte has been Arizona’s most dangerous hitter against right-handed pitching, by far. So, he’s the player that is best equipped to do some damage against Landon Knack today. In 2024, Marte is batting .275 with two homers and three doubles against righties. And he gets a crack at an inexperienced one tonight, and he’s doing so in a hitter-friendly ballpark. That said, I’m not going to overthink this one.

Pick: Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (-104)
