Lakers ML (-133 – 1.5 units) vs. Trail Blazers
Trail Blazers at Lakers – 11:00 pm ET
This is a game in which the Blazers have a chance to change some narratives. If Portland can beat Los Angeles on the road, it might be time to start taking the team somewhat seriously. However, as of this moment, I’m not buying what we’ve seen from the group.
The Blazers have a nutty statistical profile because of blowout wins over the Suns and Kings, as they’re scoring 132.8 points per 100 possessions and allowing only 102.8 per 100. I’m expecting both numbers to come crashing down. Offensively, while this team is explosive in the backcourt — and has Deni Avdija’s ability to attack downhill — the team is always playing a couple of shaky offensive players. For as much as I love Toumani Camara and Donovan Clingan, having those two out there together should prevent a five-man unit from being next-level offensively. Then, on the other end of the floor, Camara and Clingan are two excellent defensive players, but the other three leave a heck of a lot to be desired. That said, I’m expecting Portland to really start falling off in a bit, and I don’t see this as a top-10 team on either end.
Against the Lakers, everything could come to a head. JJ Redick is going to try and make Camara and Clingan beat his team, and I’m not sure they’ll do that. I also think the Blazers could be in for a long night defensively. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves will patiently call for screen after screen in order to get isolation opportunities with either Ja Morant or Damian Lillard on them. Best of luck with that, Portland.
Under Redick, Los Angeles also happens to be 35-17 straight-up in games with lines of +3 to -3. The Lakers are also 49-15 SU as home favorites. Los Angeles just doesn’t lose many of these games.
