The Washington Commanders upset the previously undefeated Philadelphia Eagles 32-21 on Monday Night Football as 11-point road underdogs and +400 on the money line to wrap up NFL Week 10.
The Eagles strip-sacked Washington QB Taylor Heinicke on the opening drive of the game and converted it into a 1-yard TD run by QB Jalen Hurts. After a Commanders TD, the Eagles drove again for another TD and a 14-7 lead and it looked like they would continue their bid for a perfect regular season.
However, Washington dominated the second quarter as the Eagles’ only two drives ended in an INT and a three-and-out, while the Commanders ran 35 plays to just seven for the Eagles and outscored them 13-0 in that 15 minutes to take a 20-14 halftime lead.
Overall in the game, Washington ran 81 plays to just 47 for the Eagles, doubled them in time of possession at 40:24 to 19:36 and won the turnover battle 4-2.
Hurts did pull the Eagles within 23-21 with 14:54 to play (also putting the game Over the betting total of 43 points), but the Commanders added Joey Slye’s fourth field goal of the game for a 26-21 lead and the Eagles were unable to mount a go-ahead TD drive with three lost fumbles and a punt on their last four possessions.
In fact, the game ended on a desperation lateral play that was recovered by Washington’s Casey Toothill for a 1-yard TD fumble return. It didn’t affect much betting-wise as the game was already Over 43 points for the game and still stayed Under 23 points in the second half. It did make losers of anyone using a 6-point teaser to take the Under up to 49 points (the combined score was on 47 before the final play and finished at 53).
In NFL Week 10, favorites and underdogs ended up splitting 7-7 straight up while dogs led 8-6 against the spread thanks to the Chargers (+8) covering in a 22-16 loss to the 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
Home teams led 8-5 SU and 7-6 ATS in Week 10 while Over/Unders split 7-7. Primetime Unders (Thursday, Sunday and Monday night games) have dominated most the season and still went 2-1 in Week 10 despite the Over this Monday night.
On the season, faves dipped to 88-59-1 SU with 2 games closing pick-’em, while dogs improved to 82-60-6 ATS (57.7%). Double-digit underdogs also improved to 9-4 ATS (69.2%) on the season with 3 outright upsets (Panthers +13 in 21-3 rout vs. the Buccaneers in Week 6 and the Jets +10.5 in their 20-17 win vs. the Bills in Week 9 being the others).
Home teams lead 81-64-1 SU with 4 neutral-site games (3 in England, 1 in Germany), but road teams improved to 71-69-6 ATS (50.7%). Unders dropped to 86-62-2 (58.1%) while primetime Unders dipped to 19-11-1 (63.3%).
