Alexander Blockx vs. Casper Ruud
Anastasia Potapova vs. Marta Kostyuk

Blockx hurt me with his win over Felix Auger-Aliassime, as I had the Canadian to complete a two-leg parlay. At this point, Blockx’s talent is undeniable, and he’s a player I have been high on from watching the Challenger Tour over the years. He’s a big ball striker with a huge serve and a wicked forehand, and it’s clear he likes moving on clay courts. However, this matchup will be tougher than the Auger-Aliassime one. Ruud is the defending champion in Madrid, he’s an elite clay-court performer, and his strengths just seem to be a little better than Blockx’s strengths. Blockx might have a massive forehand, but there aren’t many players on the planet with a more impactful forehand than Ruud’s topspin forehand on clay. Ruud also has a better understanding of how to construct points, plus the Norwegian will be super motivated here. That said, I just can’t quite see Blockx winning this one.

In the other match, this feels like the logical end to Potapova’s impressive run. I actually had her to cover against Elena Rybakina the other day — and I even sprinkled the moneyline — but Kostyuk isn’t going to give Potapova anything. Kostyuk combines brilliant offense with superb defense, and she is coming off a massive win over Linda Noskova. Kostyuk just feels like she has more momentum coming into this one, and I actually believe she’s going to go on to win this tournament.

PARLAY: Ruud ML & Kostyuk ML (-118 – 1.5 units)

Flavio Cobolli vs. Alexander Zverev

If you tailed my pre-tournament Madrid futures, you should have a little something on Zverev to win Quarter 4. Well, I’m grabbing Cobolli to win 2.5 units here. I don’t want to leave empty-handed, like I did with Noskova on the women’s side. So, if Zverev wins, we’ll win 2.5 units here. If Cobolli wins, we’ll get 0.5. As the great Denzel Washington once said, “I’m leaving here with something.”

HEDGE: Cobolli ML (+250)

NOTE: While I only have a few picks written up here, I usually have more on the Pro Picks page. I try to select the plays I write up based on player popularity. Some of the picks on the Pro Picks page are higher-confidence selections.
