Brickyard 400

The final race of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge is the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. This race marks the first time in nearly a month that there have been back-to-back races on oval tracks and this comes on one of the biggest tracks of the season. The 2.5-mile loop in Indiana should provide a cleaner race than we’ve had lately with a lot of room to race.

This is the 22nd race of 26 scheduled for the regular season and there are 36 total races on the books, including the Cup Championship Playoffs.

2025 NASCAR Cup Series Standings

We finally have a change atop the NASCAR Cup Series standings, as Chase Elliott led the most laps and won Stage 1 en route to finishing sixth last week at Dover. That was good enough to leapfrog William Byron, who finished outside the top five for the seventh straight race. Elliott’s 702 points place him 16 points ahead of Byron, who is 22 points ahead of Kyle Larson. Denny Hamlin, who secured his fourth win of the season, is just one point behind Larson and Tyler Reddick fills out the top five.

Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, Alex Bowman, and Chris Buescher fill out the top 10. There are actually three drivers in the top 12 without a win, as Reddick, Bowman, and Buescher have yet to take down a checkered flag.

The race winners so far are Byron, Larson (3), Bell (3), Hamlin (4), van Gisbergen (3), Blaney, Chastain, Joey Logano, Austin Cindric, Josh Berry, Briscoe, and Elliott through 19 points races with 16 playoff spots in total up for grabs and 12 taken by race winners as of now. There are only five races left until the Cup Series Playoffs begin, so nearly all of the race winners are safe for playoff berths.

Brickyard 400 Winners

We don’t have a ton of data for active drivers because this race was run on the road course from 2021-23 and a lot of drivers have called it quits since then. Larson is the reigning champ. Other active drivers with a win on the oval here include Brad Keselowski (1) and Kyle Busch (2).

Last year’s race had 18 lead changes across 13 drivers. Hamlin and Bubba Wallace won Stage 1 and Stage 2, respectively, while Reddick ran near the front of the pack throughout and finished second. So did Blaney, who finished third.
