Quaker State 400:
A new wrinkle will be on display during the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season with this week’s Quaker State 400 available at Walmart at EchoPark Speedway, formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway. This is the first race of the inaugural In-Season Challenge, basically borrowing from the NBA Cup playbook. This is the first of five races in the span of a month, all broadcast on TNT, features a $1 million first-place prize and a bracket-style tournament where the driver with the better finish “advances”.
All of these races are still for regular season points and drivers are not eliminated from running in the following week’s race. They are just eliminated from this side tournament.
This is the 18th race of 26 scheduled for the regular season and there are 36 total races on the books, including the Cup Championship Playoffs.

2025 NASCAR Cup Series Standings
It has been an interesting month for the Cup Series. Shane van Gisbergen won the Mexico City race and Chase Briscoe took down the checkered flag last week at Pocono, so we have 11 different race winners for 16 playoff spots.
The race winners so far are William Byron, Kyle Larson (3), Christopher Bell (3), Denny Hamlin (3), Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, Joey Logano, Austin Cindric, Josh Berry, van Gisbergen, and Briscoe through 17 points races with 16 playoff spots in total up for grabs and 11 taken by race winners as of now. That means some winners may not make it, if they don’t have enough points relative to other race winners. The most at risk would be van Gisbergen, who goes into this week 31st in points.
Byron, Larson, Hamlin, Bell and Elliott fill out the top five, as they have most of the season.
Quaker State 400 Winners
The Quaker State 400 has only been held in Georgia since 2021, as it used to belong to Kentucky. When that stop was taken off the calendar, Atlanta picked it up. From 2011-20, it was not at this track. In the four years since returning, Kurt Busch, Elliott, Byron, and Logano are the race winners.
Last year’s race was held in September and kicked off the Cup Series Playoffs.
