College Basketball Bets

We’ll have 23 college basketball games on the schedule for Friday. None of them are bigger than Michigan vs. Michigan State, which I previewed here, but there are a lot of other games that carry various levels of intrigue. We’ll see if Saint Louis gets a test from Dayton and if Boise State vs. Grand Canyon lives up to the hype. We also have a lot of small-conference action, including the MAAC, Horizon, and Ivy.

There are more than 140 games on the college basketball card for Saturday, so that explains why this Friday, and most Fridays, have a lighter number of games.

Wright State Raiders (-2.5, 150.5) at Milwaukee Panthers

8 p.m. ET

Milwaukee head coach Bart Lundy deserves a lot of credit. His Panthers have been ravaged by the injury bug this season, losing Danilo Jovanovich and Faizon Fields earlier this month, Seth Hubbard for the season in December when he was averaging 16.5 PPG, Stevie Elam for six games, and now it looks like Sekou Konneh, who only played two minutes in the win over Youngstown State, has something going on.

Wright State won the first meeting between these two teams by six points on New Year’s Day. The Raiders led by as many as 19 in the first half and mostly coasted for the rest of the game. This Wright State squad is No. 1 in the Horizon League in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency and second in eFG% offense and defense. Meanwhile, I don’t think Lundy has the kind of team he likes. The Panthers don’t get to the rim or attack the offensive glass as well as some of his past teams.

Also, he’s working with some limited bodies right now and Wright State is second in the conference in FT Rate and is shooting 78.4% at the stripe. Milwaukee is only shooting 68.5% and is 10th out of 11 Horizon League teams in FT Rate on offense. That made a big difference in the first game, as Wright State was +14 in both free throw makes and attempts. I expect it to make a big difference in a closely-lined game here.

Pick: Wright State -2.5
