College Basketball Bets

With only seven games to kick off a new week in college hoops, it might be a bit of a downer for fans and bettors coming off of a busy weekend. Have no fear, as we’ll have 36 games on Tuesday and 50 on Wednesday, so there will be many more options on the betting board.

It is a big card in women’s college basketball tonight. Tyler Shoemaker’s article with his men’s and women’s college basketball projections is back and that’s a terrific read each and every time he posts it. Check that out for more analysis.

North Alabama Lions (-2.5, 138.5) at Alabama A&M Bulldogs

8 p.m. ET

The Lions of Florence took the short drive east on Rt. 72 to head to Huntsville and take on Alabama A&M. It will be the first game for North Alabama in 12 days, as they beat San Francisco and then came home for exam week. They’ll go right back to California later this week to take on Loyola Marymount before another lengthy break. Alabama A&M, meanwhile, played lower-division Arkansas Baptist this weekend and won by eight.

Tony Pujol’s team is off to a rough start, as they lost a lot of production from last season’s 24-11 squad. But, there are a lot of reasons to believe that this team will get it going in a positive direction. First, the Lions have had TO% of 12.8%, 14.6%, and 15.8% over the last three seasons. They’re at 17% this year playing the 175th-ranked schedule per Torvik. That should improve in Pujol’s system.

Second, over 40% of UNA’s shots have been Close Twos, but they’re only shooting 50.9% on those attempts. Again, the loss of last season’s production is playing a role here, but as the strength of schedule drops for the A-Sun dwellers, that number should increase. So should their 3-point shooting, which is just 31.5% thus far. It is also worth mentioning that two of their four losses are Mississippi State and Clemson, two games that skewed their metrics on both sides of the floor pretty heavily.

The Bulldogs also have a loss to Clemson and one to Indiana that have altered their numbers pretty significantly. They also lost by 34 to Lipscomb, another A-Sun member. First-year head coach Donte Jackson came over from Grambling, where he had some of the worst offensive teams in the country. Alabama A&M is among the worst teams in the country at 2-point shots and offensive rebounding, two areas that North Alabama should use to their advantage here.

Also, I would expect the Lions to start taking better care of the ball and win the turnover possession battle here as well.

Pick: North Alabama -2.5 (-115)
