Mississippi vs. Michigan State

Though Michigan State ranks just 323rd in three-point shooting percentage at 31%, their perimeter defense makes up for it by allowing opponents to shoot only 27.8% from beyond the arc—the lowest percentage in the country. Michigan State also has a significant edge on the glass, ranking second nationally in rebound percentage, while Mississippi sits at 318th in this category. In a pressure situation, Michigan State’s free-throw shooting could be key, as they convert 77.6% from the line, ranking 24th in the nation.

Pick: Michigan State -3.5 (Greg’s Handicap: Michigan State -5)

Kentucky vs. Tennessee

Tennessee lost both regular-season matchups against Kentucky, but in those two games, Kentucky shot an unsustainable 24-of-48 from three-point range. Against all other teams, Tennessee has allowed opponents to shoot just 27.1% from beyond the arc, suggesting some regression is likely in this third meeting. Additionally, Tennessee has the better rebounding rate and ranks 22nd in opponent two-point shooting percentage away from home, while Kentucky ranks 320th in this category.

Pick: Tennessee -4 (Greg’s Handicap: Tennessee -4.5)

Michigan vs. Auburn

Michigan will have fewer scoring opportunities than Auburn due to the turnover disparity. Michigan ranks 320th in turnovers per possession on offense, while Auburn commits the fourth-fewest turnovers per possession in games played away from home. Adding to Auburn’s advantage, they shoot 37.5% from three-point range away from home, ranking 21st nationally, while Michigan is making just 31.3% of their threes in road or neutral-site games.

Pick: Auburn -9 (Greg’s Handicap: Auburn -9.5)

Purdue vs. Houston

Although playing in Purdue’s home state of Indiana is a disadvantage for Houston, they lead the nation in fewest points allowed per possession and dictate a slow pace, ranking 357th in possessions per game. Houston also boasts the best three-point shooting percentage in the country at 39.8% and should be able to score inside against a Purdue defense that ranks 341st in opponent two-point shooting percentage.

Pick: Under 132 (Greg’s Handicapped Total: 130.5)
