CFP First Round College Football Power Ratings:

The College Football Playoff is set, but that is not the only big story right now. The coaching carousel is spinning wildly and the transfer portal is filling up. This article was posted on Sunday evening, but Monday is the day that the portal opens, so we’re going to see players going all over the place as they sign new NIL deals.

Trying to make College Football Power Ratings will be foolish for a lot of those games, so my updates going forward will only be for the CFP games. The bowl games are just going to be about trying to get numbers before they swing violently or handicapping more of the unquantifiable elements. A lot of those games are going to be missing a lot of production, especially as players start to opt out and focus on the NFL.

For all intents and purposes, I’m going to shut my power ratings down for the season from doing a full update and just do updates with my numbers on the CFP teams.

Here are my CFP First Round College Football Power Ratings

1. Oregon 89

2. Ohio State 87.5

3. Texas 87.5

4. Georgia 85.5

5. Notre Dame 85.5

10. Clemson 81.5

12. SMU 81

Here are this week’s Power Ratings adjustments:

Down: UNLV -3, Iowa State -2, Texas -1, Louisiana -2, Ohio State -1, Oregon -1, Alabama -1, Indiana -2

I would expect my numbers to be pretty close on marquee games like this and that is exactly what we have. Clemson +11 is my favorite bet of the first round as of now. I may end up on Tennessee north of a TD as well, as the Volunteers should win the battle in the trenches in that game. But, we’re not talking about any grand power ratings value as justification for a bet.

I gave out some of my initial thoughts on Sunday’s YouTube livestream with myself and Jonathan Von Tobel that you can watch a replay of right here:
