Tuley’s Takes – Week 13 College Football Best Bets and Predictions:
It was another rough college football weekend in the Tuley’s Takes home office as November hasn’t been good to us. I lost with my two plays last Friday night – UCLA +4 in a 31-19 loss at Washington and Houston +1.5 in a 27-3 loss at Arizona – before ending on a winning note with Rutgers +6 in a 31-17 upset at Maryland on Saturday night. Hey, at least our dogs are really live when they cover and usually win outright, which makes me question myself why I’m not just betting the money lines. Anyway, with the regular season starting to wind down, we’re hoping that by going to school with these college teams that we can close strong and pass our final exams (aka the bowl season). In the meantime, let’s skip Friday night this weekend and go with five (hopefully) live dogs on Saturday for our Week 13 college football best bets.

Indiana +10 at Ohio State
Saturday, 12:00 p.m. ET
This line has been dropping and with good reason, as Indiana, long known as a “basketball school,” is legit for once on the gridiron. Ohio State is certainly capable of winning in a rout, but all the talk about how the Hoosiers should sit their starting QB to protect a potential CFB playoff spot is ridiculous. The players have to be insulted as they have to believe this is their year to win an elusive Big Ten title as well as any national title aspirations. I can’t think of a better way to motivate a live underdog, so I’ll take all the points I can get.
Week 13 College Football Best Bet: Indiana +10
Wisconsin +1.5 at Nebraska
Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET
Staying in the Big Ten, these proud programs are also-rans this season, but the winner at least gets to bowl eligibility. Both have been inconsistent all season and are not in good form, as Wisconsin has lost three straight while Nebraska has dropped four in a row. This should be a low-scoring battle as the Cornhuskers have scored 20 points or fewer in all four of those losses while the Badgers have scored 13 or fewer in their last three; however, I saw more to like in their 16-13 loss vs. No. 1 Oregon last Saturday. I’m On Wisconsin (get it?).
Week 13 College Football Best Bet: Wisconsin +1.5
Western Kentucky +1 at Liberty
Saturday, 1:00 p.m. ET
Regular readers know I don’t put much stock in home-field advantage these days, and this is another case where I think the road team would be the chalk at home or on a neutral field, and the home team is falsely favored. Western Kentucky (7-3) is certainly just as good as Liberty (7-2). The Flames’ offense has put up more points than the Hilltoppers (31.1 points per game to 28 for WKU), but I don’t like Liberty QB Kaidon Slater any better than Western Kentucky’s Caden Veltkamp. Besides, the Hilltoppers’ defense allows just 21.1 points per game, and I feel that will be the difference.
Week 13 College Football Best Bet: Western Kentucky +1
East Carolina +3 at North Texas
Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET
Repeat what I wrote above about the home team only being favored because it’s playing on its own turf. I have East Carolina (6-4) favored over North Texas (5-5) as the Pirates come in on a three-game winning streak. ECU averages 33 points per game and it should be more if they can cut down on the INTs by Katin Houser (24-for-37 last week, 314 yards, one TD, but three INTs). North Texas has lost four straight, and the defense is allowing 35.7 points per game, so that should help the Panthers. I just don’t see the Mean Green matching them score for score.
Week 13 College Football Best Bet: East Carolina +3
Air Force +3.5 at Nevada
Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET
Air Force is down from what we’ve seen in recent years, but they’ve won two in a row. But again this is more of a play against Nevada, especially being favored by more than a field goal despite being on a four-game losing streak. My middle daughter goes to UNR, so I’ve seen more of their games this year than I normally do. While the Wolf Pack has shown some positive signs, these are two teams heading in opposite directions, and I’ll take the points even though, again, I’m counting on the outright upset.
Week 13 College Football Best Bet: Air Force +3.5
