In the third round of the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, Scottie Scheffler surged into a three-shot lead with a 65, highlighted by three birdies and an eagle in his final five holes, finishing at 11-under for the tournament. Alex Noren posted a 66, placing him second at 8-under. J.T. Poston and Davis Riley were at 7-under, while Jon Rahm, among four players at 6-under, carded seven birdies but was hampered by a bogey on the 17th. Jhonattan Vegas, the 36-hole leader, struggled early with bogeys, falling to a tie for the lead before Scheffler pulled away. Bryson DeChambeau dropped shots late, finishing at 5-under. Scheffler is a -450 favorite heading into today’s final round.

Well, the cream has risen to the top at the PGA Championship. Scottie Scheffler holds the lead heading into Sunday. Can Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau or one of the others catch him? I’m not super confident, but I’m sure hoping Bryson can! Regardless, should be a fun final round. I’ll certainly be rooting for Bryson hoping to get an outright bet home. No overnight outright adds for me, and I’d caution looking too far down the board with the star power on top. I’ll post any fourth-round matchups on vsin.com before play starts.

During an afternoon lunch at Zippy’s, I checked the PGA scores and was surprised to see DeChambeau in the lead and up two shots on Scheffler. Before I could finish the fried chicken, Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice plate, Bryson went bogey-double bogey and was falling as fast as Scottie was rising. The DeChambeau bet (11-1) is all but dead, and Scheffler seems set to coast to the win as a strong odds-on favorite.

This is why you can bet Scheffler in the 4-1 range pre-tournament and not be concerned with hecklers calling you a square. When he’s on, Scheffler is the best player we’ve seen since Tiger Woods in the early 2000s. Scheffler is obviously not as sensational as Tiger, but steady play is getting it done this week. DeChambeau is a loose cannon, and his style backfired this time.

It’s probable that a player or two gets hot Sunday and puts some heat on Scheffler. With some luck, it’s DeChambeau, who will get even more aggressive.

I’m not going to sit on the couch and watch the final round. I’ll record the golf and see it later. When the weather is warm, go outside and get some sun because it’s good for your mental and physical health. Hit the golf course or the pool. Do not sit in the air conditioning all day watching TV like a zombie. That’s my pro tip.

It’s over. Donezo. We are on to the US Open.

Scottie Scheffler went out and played the final five holes at 5-under and will enter Sunday three strokes clear of his next closest competitor, Alex Noren.

If it were a mere mortal at the top of the leaderboard, I’d say maybe we could get some value on one of his chasers catching him on a bad day. But that’s just not the case. As we noted yesterday, Scottie was good, but there was room for improvement. He improved…gaining 1.45 strokes putting, 3.34 on approach, and 2.87 OTT. He’s unreal. I look forward to cashing the ticket on Sunday afternoon.

Only 17 golfers put up a red number on Saturday, meaning if you were able to stay under par, you rocketed up the leaderboard. A 4-under round from Max Greyserman shot him 45 spots up the leaderboard. Consider that when you put in some in-game finishing position bets. There might be some value on guys we know can go low sneaking into the Top 20. Looking at you Viktor Hovland (+170).

One of the golfers with a forgettable round was Corey Conners. He lost a ridiculous 2.49 strokes around-the-green, and lost another 0.73 strokes on approach. Conners is known for his iron play, yet in round 3, he only found 7 of 18 greens in regulation. He went 13 for 18 the day prior. I have Conners rebounding and have backed him in a H2H against Tom McKibbin in Round 4.

Past that, I’m just going to sit back and watch the best in the game do his thing. Hope you guys made some money this week.
