In the second round of the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, Jhonattan Vegas maintained his lead despite a double-bogey on the final hole, finishing at 8-under-par. Si Woo Kim, Matthieu Pavon, and Matt Fitzpatrick are tied for second at 6-under-par, while Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler are among those tied for fifth at 5-under-par. Notable performances included Si Woo Kim’s record-breaking 252-yard hole-in-one. Rory McIlroy struggled but made the cut at 2-over-par, while Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry, and Sepp Straka also advanced as the cut line settled at 2-over-par.

We reached our 70 plus ties cut and Rory McIllory and Xander Schauffele will be playing the weekend, making the cut on the number. Both are too far back in my opinion to really make any sort of run and DataGolf agrees, giving each less than 1% to raise the trophy.
We’ll say better luck next year to Ludvig Aberg, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka, Patrick Reed, Sungjae Im, Patrick Cantlay, Cam Smith and Brooks Koepka. Straka, Spieth, and Lowry missed on the number while everyone else missed by multiple strokes.
We saw two rounds of 7-under on Friday, each quite surprising. Si Woo Kim and Max Homa threw up 64s on Friday after each shot over par in their opening round. After missing five straight cuts, Homa might have found something at the Masters. He went T12 there, made the cut at the Heritage and last week at the Truist. I’m not sure he’s ready to fully contend at a major over four rounds, but perhaps a decent finishing position play moving forward. Si Woo always lingers and never wins, so I expect the same here.
We cashed both of our Scottie Scheffler adds for round two (Top 5 and 10 after round 2) so I’m going to stand pat with him and ride out my outright ticket. He gained across the board today and still has some room to improve OTT and putting. I know it might be boring, but he’s a huge favorite for good reason.
If I were parachuting into this tournament without a ticket, I’d be looking at the Winner Without Scottie market or just the Top 5 market. Scheffler is 2/1 to win…and he’s probably going to win. If you love someone else to really contend with the world number 1, take a shot in the outright and Winner Without market. Or you can always just fire a live Top 5.
Huge outlier day putting for Si Woo Kim (+4.62) and he had a hole in one. I’ll try and find a H2H against him in round 3. Lucas Glover lost 1.6 strokes putting and 1.25 strokes OTT yet he found a way to shoot 1-under. How? He gained FIVE strokes on approach. Lucas has amazing irons, but that’s absurd. I’ll try and fade him on Saturday as well.
Best of luck and go Scottie!

It’s setting up to be a fun weekend at the PGA Championship. Can some of the big names like Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau continue their climb up the leaderboard and get into the mix with some relatively weaker players at the top?
If you’re looking for a live outright, I honestly don’t hate the prices on Scheffler or DeChambeau. With the competition in front of them, I think both are still very live to win this.
One bet I’ll be adding…
Daniel Berger top 20 (+240)
He’s been awesome T2G, just need that putter to heat up this weekend.

Scheffler has not been razor sharp, but he’s the obvious favorite (+210) going to the weekend. I didn’t bet Scheffler this week and regret it. My best bet remaining is on DeChambeau (11-1), who’s five shots back. DeChambeau leads the field in driving distance (345.6 yards) on a Quail Hollow course that was expected to favor longer hitters. I’m not overly optimistic about DeChambeau, who’s at 9-1 odds now, but golf handicapper “Indy” Jeff Sealey is and said, “I’m accumulating more Bryson shares.”
Several players, probably 15 to 20, still have a legit shot to win this tournament. I’ll consider Matt Fitzpatrick (12-1) and Max Homa (22-1) as adds. Let’s give credit to VSiN’s Mitch Moss and Will Hill, who bet Homa at long odds — Mitch got 205-1 and Will got 180-1.
I had to laugh Friday afternoon while watching Phil Mickelson need three shots to get out of a bunker. Even the most accomplished players in the world can occasionally look clownish on a golf course. Mickelson is one of many big names headed home for the weekend. The biggest busts to miss the cut were Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Justin Rose, Patrick Cantlay, Patrick Reed, Ludvig Aberg, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka and Jordan Spieth.
