Belmont Oaks, Saratoga, Race #7
We will kick this off with a loaded field of 3-year-old fillies on the turf. I’ll start with the rail, #1 Just Aloof. She has looked like she has always wanted to go longer than one mile, so today’s stretch out should be a positive. She likely wins the Edgewood with an extra furlong and would have been 3-1 had that been the case. The cherry on top is she could get loose on the lead as well.
#10 Imaginationthelady has been the best in this group stateside since her debut. She seems to still have some upside and is the logical US horse to beat, but the post makes it tough to put her on top.
The #3 Kinsington Lane and #8 Abashiri are the two European invaders that both should be respected. Abashiri has the connections that will take the money and the last two are impressive company, but the races were not that great. Kinsington Lane is the better price and has more early speed in a race that could be lacking. I’d rather take a shot with the better price.
#6 Fitz Right has won three in a row including her last over this Saratoga turf course and Prat picks this Brown to ride.
Top 4 – 1-10-3-6
The Bets – $50 Win #1
Suburban Stakes, Saratoga, Race #8
It seems only fitting that on July 4th I pick #9 Stars and Stripes. He is coming off a nice Grade 3 victory as he stretched out to the longest distance in his career. Mott has taken his time with Stars and Stripes and it has paid off with consistent improvement and has a dominant win over the track.
#7 Antiquarian lost this race last year because of his own antics. Now he’s all grown up in the head, but coming off a clunker because of an interesting choice to send in the Met Mile. He will be better today and will come from off the pace.
I will take a flyer on #5 Tiztastic at a 12-1 price. The turf experiment failed, but there are back numbers that could make him interesting today on the dirt.
While I don’t think #4 Parchment Party can win, I do think he makes some sense underneath and he does like the track, he’s two for two, but both going longer.
Top 4 – 9-7-5-4
The Bets – $50 Win #9
