Precise holds the distinction as the future-book favorite for the Group 1 English 1000 Guineas at Newmarket Racecourse next May, one of that country’s most historic races for 3-year-old fillies.

Precise may end her 2025 season with a piece of American racing history if she runs to expectation in Friday’s $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar.

Precise’s appearance at Del Mar is a slight surprise. After Precise won her fourth consecutive race in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile on Oct. 10 at Newmarket, trainer Aidan O’Brien indicated that she would not start again until the spring.

The plan changes came after consulting with the ownership group – the Coolmore syndicate and Georg von Opel.

“She came out of the race very well,” O’Brien said in a recent interview. “The lads were anxious that she go. They love the Breeders’ Cup.”

Opposing owners and trainers will not savor the presence of Precise in the one-mile Juvenile Fillies Turf, which drew a field of 13.

Precise has won 4 of 5 starts since her career began in early July. The winning streak consists of a maiden race in Ireland on Aug. 14, the Group 3 Prestige Fillies Stakes at Goodwood Racecourse in England 10 days later, the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at seven furlongs at The Curragh in Ireland on Sept. 14, and the Fillies’ Mile.

The Fillies’ Mile was a particularly eye-catching win. Precise took the lead a furlong from the finish and won by 3 1/4 lengths as the 5-4 favorite. The victory gave her the role of future-book favorite for the 1000 Guineas.

“She looks very different,” O’Brien said. “She looks lovely, very exciting.”

For O’Brien to describe Precise as “very different” is a remarkable statement, considering the depth of his world-class stable this century.

Precise will be a strong favorite in the Juvenile Fillies Turf and can give the Ireland-based O’Brien his third win in the last four runnings. Precise, who will be ridden by Christophe Soumillon, drew the outside post.

In her wins in the Prestige and Moyglare Stud Stakes, Precise raced as a stalker. She closed from off the pace to win the Fillies’ Mile. The Juvenile Fillies Turf will be Precise’s first start around two turns, an issue that does not concern O’Brien.

“She has pace and obviously it will be something different,” he said.

O’Brien is the only foreign-based trainer to win the Juvenile Fillies Turf since 2013.

This year’s domestic team is led by Ultimate Love, who won the Selima Stakes on Sept. 27 at Laurel Park; Imaginationthelady, Infinite Sky, and Time to Dream, the first three finishers of the Grade 2 Jessamine Stakes on Oct. 3 at Keeneland; and Ground Support, winner of the Grade 2 Miss Grillo Stakes on Oct. 4 at Aqueduct.

Brave Deb, winner of the Grade 3 Surfer Girl Stakes on Oct. 5 at Santa Anita, will be a longshot.

Ultimate Love has won three starts for Live Oak Plantation and trainer Mike Trombetta. In the Selima, Ultimate Love closed from fourth of eight to win by four lengths as the 3-2 favorite.

Trombetta was initially hesitant to commit Ultimate Love to the Juvenile Fillies Turf after the Selima but grew more confident after assessing the field.

“I saw how we fit in the big picture,” he said. “It made more sense to me. We do fit and we do belong.”

John Velazquez will ride Ultimate Love for the first time. Trombetta envisions Ultimate Love racing from slightly off the pace.

“It’s probably going to be a lively race,” Trombetta said.

Ultimate Love drew the inside post, which may force Velazquez to be creative to ensure a clean trip.

Time to Dream drew post 9, which should fit her closing style. In the Jessamine, Time to Dream raced on the inside to the turn and was in traffic in early stretch. With a wide move under Irad Ortiz Jr., Time to Dream closed from ninth in the final furlong to finish third, a length behind the winner, Imaginationthelady.

Time to Dream finished a nose behind runner-up Infinite Sky, leaving trainer Todd Pletcher to wonder where she could have finished with a better journey.

“It might have been awfully close or she gets there,” Pletcher said. “We had to sit there a little too long. I thought she finished well.”

Time to Dream won her first two starts at Saratoga – a maiden race at a mile on July 25, and a five-length win in the P.G. Johnson Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf on Aug. 27.

“I was impressed with her races at Saratoga,” Pletcher said.

Brave Deb, Final Accord, and Ground Support are expected to race near the front. Friday’s race is the first at a mile for Final Accord. Unbeaten in two starts, Final Accord raced near the front in a five-furlong maiden race on Sept. 11 at Woodbine and closed from sixth of eight to win the Grade 3 Matron Stakes at six furlongs on Oct. 2 at Aqueduct.

Ground Support stalked the pace when she won a maiden race at a mile at 100-1 on Aug. 3 at Kentucky Downs. In the Miss Grillo, Ground Support led throughout to win by two lengths at 12-1.

In recent training at Turfway Park, Ground Support has worked in company.

Trainer Kelsey Danner said she is comfortable with Ground Support being in front.

“We’ll have to play it by ear,” she said. “I think there will be more speed in this race. There are some sprinters in there and there is some speed. If no one takes it, we can take it.”

A lead could be vital for Ground Support’s chances, particularly with a filly like Precise looming in the chasing pack.
