Now let’s head out to Keeneland for some action!
125k Optional Claiming, Keeneland, Race #8
The secondary feature on the Keeneland card offers an interesting, full field of three-year-old fillies who have a shot to improve here. #9 Gin’s Beach Road is the lukewarm favorite here off an emphatic Maiden Special Weight victory in her return to the dirt. She pressed the pace and won that day. With speed to her inside, she should be set up with a similar trip here as well. She has as much right to improve as anyone in this field. If she does, that should get her to the wire first.
#1 Stilettos may be the main beneficiary of the pace that could develop here. She needs to replicate the race four-back at Lone Star to get to the winner’s circle today, but has been the beaten favorite in two straight starts.
#7 Moon Mystique is another one who will benefit from the pace today. She won impressively from off the pace last time out at Ellis and will be looking to replicate the trip again today. She is setting up in class, but the 15-1 price sure makes her interesting.
#8 Anakarina is the speed of the speed, and if anyone goes gate to wire here, it’s her. She ran five times on the turf prior to her last effort with limited success, but the return to the dirt woke her up.
Top 4: 9-1-7-8
The Bets: $50 Win #9
QE II Stakes, Keeneland, Race #9
The final big stakes for three-year-old fillies is loaded with some of the best in the division. I am going to go off the beaten path here with #7 Destino d’Oro, who is 8-1 on the board. She just missed in a graded stakes here at Keeneland to end the two-year-old season and kick off the campaign this year with back-to-back wins before falling at Kentucky Downs. She did not seem to like the track that day and now picks up Irad Ortiz Jr. for a return to one mile and an eighth where she romped two back. She has been sub 2-1 in the last four races, so the price is too enticing to pass up here.
#9 Fionn has danced all of the dances in this division this year with resounding success. Her only two losses have come at a mile, shorter than today’s distance. She can make her own trip. The only knock here is the price.
#3 Simmering is the wild card in the field at 10-1. She invades from Europe, where she has been inconsistent, but her best effort will give this field a run for its money. It is simply a question of whether we will get it in her first North American effort.
#1 Lush Lips broke some hearts last time out in California in a race that she really should have won. Had she, the 5-1 would not be available today. She has the talent, but needs to run a career best to win here.
I should at least mention #2 Laurelin, who has yet to lose in her career. She has not faced the level of competition as some others in here, but she is the favorite at 5/2 and would be my third or fourth more likely winner here.Top 4: 7-9-3-1
The Bets – $50 Win #7
