Let’s head to New York for this article and look at races from Belmont at the Big A.
Maiden Special Weight, Belmont at the Big A, Race #7
We’ve got a full field of maidens heading postward on the Aqueduct turf course. I do like a couple of prices underneath, but on top, let’s look to #7 British Invasion, who ran well first time out at Saratoga. He showed unexpected speed that day, which should be a fairly big advantage the second time out. He got the lead deep stretch and got run down by a promising horse. I would expect the stamina to be better second out, and I love that there is no other speed signed on.
#12 Noble Dynasty seems to be the biggest threat in here with a nice second-place finish to Teddy’s Rocket, who is in a graded stakes at Woodbine tomorrow. The post and price are my main issues here. It’s not easy to win from the 12 at Aqueduct going two turns.
#6 Donnadoyawanna is one of those underneath prices at 15-1 for trainer Todd Pletcher. He’s well-bred and cost a pretty penny. The workouts have been a touch on the slower side, but all of those are over the dirt, so there is some excuse.
#2 Boss Henry is also a player here at 6-1 after a nice third-place finish the first time out, with some trouble to boot. He needs to show more speed to get to the winner’s circle, but a trifecta/superfecta finish could definitely be in the cards.
Top 4: 7-12-6-2
The Bets – $50 Win #7
Floral Park, Belmont at the Big A, Race #10
The favorite, #3 Dontlookbackatall ran into the buzz saw that is Future is Now last time on the turf at Saratoga. There is no buzz saw today, and she should get a very good trip from the 3-post. She’s 2-for-8 over the Aqueduct turf course and finds a very beatable field today.
To her inside, #2 Love Appeals enters off a nice stalking win in an overnight stakes race at Monmouth. She got the best trip in that six-horse field, so it’s tough to go to her right back at the same price in a tougher field. She’s a player underneath.
#8 Rileys Redemption is the wildcard in here at 15-1. Her last start was the first in over a year, and the race was taken off the turf, so it’s hard to fault her for that effort. She is the speed of the speed today. Mike Maker can get this type of horse to run. She’s got a 96 beyer in her past performances and could get brave on the front end.
#1 Luna Louska will also be gunning it right from the start and draws the inside post. She’s a 3-year-old taking on older horses in this spot, but has back-to-back wins since switching over to the turf. She is the other horse to know early.
