Forecast: Simply stated, this gifted European invader is superior to his North American counterparts. A winner of 10 of 18 career starts, including seven of his last 10 (all in top-class stakes company), the five-year-old son of Dubawai will be stretching out to a mile for the first time, but he should have no problem with today’s extra distance and in fact gives every indication that he’ll be quite comfortable over the Del Mar turf course’s tight layout and the extremely firm ground that it offers. At 3-1 on the morning line, he represents a strong play as a win play in the various rolling exotics.

With Knicks Go and Medina Spirit very likely to ensure a hot early pace, ‘Charlie projects to enjoy an ideal second flight, stalking trip and then have every chance to wear down his two main rivals in the final furlong. A winner of the Pennsylvania Derby with a career top number in a race that already has proven to be highly productive, the D. O’Neill-trained colt still has plenty of improvement in him and appears ready for a career top performance. He’s a good gamble at or near his morning line of 4-1.
