Monday Betting Recaps

Monday was a pretty quiet day in the sportsbooks (and on the betting apps, if we’re being accurate with how most gamblers get and sweat their action in 2023).

Top MLB Resources:

The Cleveland Cavaliers routed the Houston Rockets 99-78 as 1.5-point underdogs to win the NBA Summer League championship here in Las Vegas (stayed Under betting total of 194 points), but most of the focus was on the 10-game MLB card.
As we’ll see below in our nightly recaps, faves went 5-3 with one pick-’em, but we also had a game suspended with the Giants and Reds tied 2-2 in the top of the 8th inning (for betting purposes, “Vegas rules” dictate that the result reverts back to the last completed inning – when it was also tied 2-2 – so moneyline bets are ruled “no-action” and refunded while runline and Over/Under wagers are also refunds since the game didn’t go 9 innings (or 8.5 if the home team is leading). Note: 1st Inning bets, First 3, First 5, etc. wagers are all graded as action.
Let’s get to the full nightly recaps that we post on Twitter @ViewFromVegas, then update the season-long betting stats.

MLB: Faves went 5-3 Monday with Dodgers-Orioles closing pick-’em in LA’s 6-4 win, plus Giants-Reds no-action on game ML as it was tied 2-2 through 7 innings. The upsets were by Nationals (+122 in 7-5 win at Cubs), Rangers (+109 in 3-2 win vs. Rays) and Cardinals (-101 in 6-4 win vs. Marlins). Road teams led 5-4. Overs also went 5-4.

More MLB: On the season, faves improved to 806-569 with 23 games closing pick-’em. Home teams lead 722-674 with 4 neutral-site games, though road teams have been cutting into that lead lately. Unders’ lead has been cut back down to just 672-668-59 with 1 no-action (note: tonight’s Giants-Reds game was technically a 2nd no-action on the total, but in the interest of the same number of games for faves/dogs, home/away and Over/Unders, I’m not going to include it here; the prior no-contest total was a game that was rain-shortened and ruled official, so the fave/dog moneyline and home/road results counted unlike tonight’s tie/refund for ML purposes.
