Best Bets on Today’s MLB Player Props Market
The 2023 MLB season is entering the final stretch and VSiN continues to have you covered with every way you can possibly bet on a baseball game. As always, Adam Burke will have daily best bets to give you some ideas of what to back when it comes to moneylines, run lines and totals. However, I’m tackling player props here, and I’m targeting Max Fried, Brady Singer and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on Monday, August 14th. Keep reading to find out how I’m betting on all of them.

Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Monday, August 14th:
New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves (-218, 9)
Max Fried is 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA this season, but he hasn’t pitched much and just returned from a stint on the IL. Fried also got hit hard in his most recent start, giving up four earned on six hits in 4.0 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now, Fried faces a Yankees team that might be flawed but hits lefties pretty hard. So, I think he’s at risk of giving up three or more earned runs in this game.
This season, New York is seventh in the league in wRC+ against left-handed pitching. And this Yankees lineup has scored at least seven runs in four of its last seven games. So, while this New York team is definitely a little inconsistent, it’s still a lineup with a good amount of firepower. With that in mind, I think Fried could run into some trouble here. And I love that he can turn in a quality start and still help us cash this one. That’s probably the most realistic outcome in this game.
Bet: Fried Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (+120)
Seattle Mariners (-148, 8.5) at Kansas City Royals
Brady Singer got off to a horrible start to the season, and his season-long numbers are ruined because of it. Singer is 8-8 with a 5.05 ERA this season, but the 27-year-old has been a lot better lately. Singer has had four starts in a row in which he has allowed three or fewer earned runs, and it feels like he’ll continue to pitch well down the stretch. And I think he’ll turn in a solid outing against the Mariners tonight, especially in the strikeout column.
Singer’s strikeout total for tonight sits at 5.5, so he just needs to hit six in order for us to cash the Over. Singer has hit the six-strikeout mark in five starts this season, which isn’t a high number. But it shows that he is capable of doing it, and he should have no trouble reaching it against Seattle. The Mariners have the second-highest strikeout rate in baseball this year, and this is a team that can really struggle to make contact. That’s why I love Singer to miss a bunch of bats this evening.
Bet: Singer Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-105)
Arizona Diamondbacks (-230, 11.5) at Colorado Rockies
The Diamondbacks have a golden opportunity to have a big day at the plate, as Chris Flexen will be on the mound for the Rockies. Since being acquired by Colorado, Flexen has allowed 14 earned runs in 13.2 innings on the hill. He has also given up 22 hits and six homers in that span, and he has genuinely looked like one of the worst pitchers in the league. Now, Flexen will have to face a good offense at Coors Field, so I’m looking to the Diamondbacks for batter props.
When playing this game, it’s hard not to zero in on Lourdes Gurriel Jr. as the player to back for Arizona. Gurriel Jr. has an insanely high total bases prop, with the number being up at 2.5. But when a number is that high, it tends to be for a reason. So, I’m playing the Over and hoping for a big day at the plate. And I love that you can get plus-money odds on it.
Gurriel Jr. is 2 for 5 against Flexen in his career, and he has hit a double off the righty before. One of those would set us up nicely to cash this, but I can also see him going yard in this game. Either way, Gurriel Jr. has been on a tear in August, batting .342 with two doubles, four homers and six RBIs. He’s on fire and I think he’ll produce in a big way tonight.
Bet: Gurriel Jr. Over 2.5 Total Bases (+115)
