MLB Player Props for Friday, May 10

The 2024 MLB season is finally here. After another wild offseason and an exciting couple of weeks of Spring Training, we’re ready for some games that matter. This season, VSiN Managing Editor Adam Burke will have you covered when it comes to MLB sides and totals in his daily best bets column. You’ll also get some First Five Inning analysis from Jonathan Von Tobel. On top of that, our analytics guru Steve Makinen will feed you some interesting trends and systems on a daily basis. But I’ll be focusing specifically on MLB player props this season, dishing out at least three per day every Monday to Friday. With that in mind, let’s get into the plays for Friday, May 10th.

New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays – 6:50 pm ET

The Rays are sending Taj Bradley to the mound for this first start of the year today. Bradley is a guy that I generally like to back, but I think this is a tough matchup for him this early in his return. Only five teams in the league have a lower strikeout rate than the Yankees against righties this year, and New York is also second in the league in wRC+ against right-handed pitching. So, I’m not looking to bet on Bradley in this spot, but I’ll be on his strikeout totals soon enough. But I am going to take Alex Verdugo to do some damage in this game. In an admittedly small sample size, Verdugo has absolutely crushed Bradley in the past. He’s 5 for 5 with a triple, three doubles and an RBI against the righty in his career. And while I don’t expect him to stay perfect, I do think it’s worth taking a shot on him to have Over 1.5 hits, runs and RBIs. The price on it is extremely reasonable.

Pick: Verdugo Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-120 – 1.5 units)

Texas Rangers at Colorado Rockies – 8:40 pm ET

The Rangers can be one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the league, but they have some trouble with left-handed pitching. In fact, while Texas is fifth in the league in wRC+ against righties this season, the team is just 23rd in wRC+ against southpaws. And the Rangers also happen to have the eighth-highest strikeout rate in the league against lefties. With that in mind, I’m playing Austin Gomber to go Over 3.5 strikeouts tonight. Gomber has already had three starts in which he has reached the four-strikeout mark, and I just don’t see any reason why he can’t do it here. And while I know this game is at Coors Field, it really doesn’t matter that much. If he gets lit up, he gets lit up. But I don’t think he’ll do it without missing some bats first.

Pick: Gomber Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-112)

Cincinnati Reds at San Francisco Giants – 10:15 pm ET

Logan Webb has had some issues lately, giving up eight earned runs on 16 hits over 7.2 innings in two road starts. But Webb is a much better starter at home, where he is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in three starts this season. And he’s facing a Reds offense that is miserable against right-handed pitching tonight. Only three teams in the league have a lower wRC+ against righties in 2024, so this is the ultimate get-right spot for Webb. And that’s ultimately why I want to take a flier on him to record a win at big plus-money odds. Webb should be able to cruise against this Cincinnati lineup, and I trust the Giants to plate enough runs against Andrew Abbott to get him his win.

Pick: Webb To Record Win (+160 – 0.5 units)
