Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers

Mariners starting pitcher Logan Gilbert owns a 3.44 ERA despite recording 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings, as home runs have been an issue — he’s allowing 1.4 per nine innings. Most of his struggles have come on the road, where he’s posted a 4.74 ERA with 1.7 home runs per nine. Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty has a 4.64 ERA this season but a lower 3.85 fielding independent mark, with 1.3 home runs, 3.3 walks, and 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings. He’s backed by a Tigers lineup that ranks seventh in home scoring, averaging 4.9 runs per game.

Picks: Tigers Moneyline +113 and Over 7.5 Runs (Greg’s Handicap: Tigers -114 and Total 7.6)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees

Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodón enters having allowed three runs or fewer in 11 straight starts, with a combined 3.13 ERA between the regular season and postseason. However, his regular-season fielding independent pitching (FIP) sits higher at 3.78, with more than one home run and 3.4 walks allowed per nine innings. He faces a Blue Jays lineup that has led the league in scoring since the All-Star Break, averaging over 5.5 runs per game including the playoffs. Blue Jays starter Shane Bieber will have to contend with a Yankees offense that leads MLB in both overall scoring (5.2 runs per game) and home runs. Bieber has allowed 1.8 home runs per nine innings this season while posting a 3.59 ERA and 4.47 FIP.

Picks: Blue Jays Moneyline +131 and Over 7.5 Runs (Greg’s Handicap: Blue Jays +124 and Total 7.7)
