Here are our favorite MLB best bets and prop bets for Sunday, August 13th:
Chicago Cubs at Toronto Blue Jays (-122, 9)
This has been an up-and-down year for Jameson Taillon, but the righty comes into this game after having allowed two or fewer earned runs in four consecutive starts. He’s really in a nice groove for Chicago at the moment, so I like his chances of winning his pitcher’s duel against Hyun Jin Ryu, who hasn’t spent much time on the hill this season. Ryu has started only two games for the Blue Jays, and he actually had to leave his last start after hurting his knee fielding a grounder. Now, I wonder if he’ll be a bit out of rhythm. And the lefty just so happens to be facing a Cubs lineup that is fifth in the league in wRC+ since the start of July. So, it isn’t exactly the best matchup in the world for him. And overall, it’s just hard laying off the Cubs as a plus-money play here.
Bet: Cubs ML (+102)
Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates (-135, 9)
The Over is 37-21-1 in the games the Pirates have played at home this season, and it has also hit in each of Pittsburgh’s last five games. Now, the Pirates are sending Mitch Keller to the mound, and the righty has allowed nine or more hits in four of his last five starts. So, he has really been struggling for Pittsburgh as of late, and that could be trouble against a Cincinnati lineup that can be rather dangerous. As for the Pirates, I expect them to do quite a bit of damage against Brandon Williamson today. The lefty has a 5.40 ERA on the road this season, and he can easily get beat up in today’s game. With all of that in mind, it’s just hard to see this game not being somewhat high in scoring.
Bet: Over 9 (-120)
New York Yankees (-122, 7) at Chicago White Sox
Gerrit Cole had some difficulties against the Chicago White Sox in his last trip to the mound, as he gave up four earned runs in a game in which he walked two batters and gave up five hits. It wasn’t his sharpest day on the bump, but he still ended up pitching 7.0 innings in that one. Cole has now thrown 7.0 innings in each of his last three starts, and he has also recorded at least 19 outs in five of his last six. That makes it an easy decision to back him to do it again here. This Marlins lineup can definitely be very tough to face, but I don’t see Cole struggling twice in a row. He hasn’t given up more than two earned runs in back-to-back games since May.
Bet: Cole Over 18.5 Outs Recorded (+100)
