Best Bets on Today’s 15-Game MLB Schedule

We’re entering the final stretch of the 2023 MLB season and VSiN continues to have you covered with every way you can possibly bet on a baseball game. Normally, Adam Burke will have daily best bets to give you some ideas of what to back when it comes to moneylines, run lines and totals, while I focus on feeding you all player props. However, Adam is off on Sundays, so I’m tackling everything before we get back to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow. Keep reading to find out how I’m betting three of the games on the MLB schedule for Sunday, August 27th.

Here are our favorite MLB best bets and prop bets for Sunday, August 27th:

Los Angeles Angels at New York Mets (-115, 8.5)

I’m a little shocked by the relatively low total in today’s meeting between the Angels and Mets. These are two teams that might not consistently score, but they are still capable of getting hot at the plate. And this matchup on the mound isn’t good enough to warrant a total this low. Griffin Canning is 7-4 with a mediocre 4.61 ERA this season, and his ERA goes up to 5.03 in day games. So, the Mets should be able to plate a few against the righty in this one. Meanwhile, David Peterson will be starting this game for New York. He has been a disaster as a starter for the Mets this season, and he comes into this game with a 5.59 ERA. Don’t be surprised if the Angels get a little hot and chase him from this one early. That would put this Over in play easily. And overall, that seems about right to me. I think this will be a high-scoring game.

Bet: Over 8.5 (-118)

Los Angeles Dodgers (-118, 10) at Boston Red Sox

Lefty Caleb Ferguson will be opening for the Dodgers today, but he’ll be turning things over to righty Ryan Pepiot. So, this is essentially a game in which Boston will be facing a right-handed starter, but Alex Verdugo’s total bases prop has him priced as if he’s facing a lefty. Considering Verdugo is batting .301 with three triples, 27 doubles and 11 homers against righties this season, that looks like a big mistake. With that in mind, I’m playing Verdugo to reach at least two total bases here. He has been on fire recently, hitting this mark in five of the last six games. That means he’s confident up at the plate and should be able to keep it rolling in this matchup.

Bet: Verdugo Over 1.5 Total Bases (+120)

Houston Astros (-180, 9) at Detroit Tigers

Justin Verlander will be on the mound for the Astros in this game, but I like the Tigers as a value play today. Detroit is a team that has responded well to losses this year, as the Tigers are 36-32 when coming off a loss this season. They’re also 31-21 when coming off losses in two of their previous three games this year. Meanwhile, Houston is 3-12 when coming off a win by six or more runs this season. And the Astros have actually lost those games by an average of 1.8 runs per game. Verlander has also been somewhat beatable this season, even though he is coming off a great start for the Red Sox. So, it’s not outrageous to think the Tigers will score a few runs against him. And I like Detroit starter Alex Faedo, who has given up only two earned runs in his last 11.0 innings on the hill.

Bet: Tigers ML (+150)
