Here are our favorite MLB best bets and prop bets for Sunday, September 17th:
Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles (-125, 9)
Dean Kremer has been solid for the Orioles all season, but he has generally looked worse at home this season. The righty has a 4.78 ERA in 17 starts in Baltimore, and it’s also worth mentioning that he has a 5.40 ERA in the nine day games he has pitched in this season. With that in mind, he might not be all that comfortable when he gets out there here. And that’s not exactly what you want in a game that is absolutely massive. These two are currently battling it out for first place in the AL East and this game will be big in determining who gets that spot. But I trust Tampa Bay a little more here. The Rays are 18-6 when coming off an upset loss as a division rival over the last two seasons. They’re also just playing some great baseball right now, in general. While Tampa Bay lost last game, the Rays have won seven of their last nine. Meanwhile, the Orioles had lost four in a row before yesterday’s win. That said, you can’t beat getting Tampa at plus-money odds.
Bet: Rays ML (+105)
Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets (-135, 9)
The Over has hit in three of the last five games that the Mets have played, and it’s actually now 26-13 in New York’s September games over the last two seasons. Regardless of whether or not that means anything, I do think there will be some runs scored in this game. This just isn’t a very inspiring pitching matchup, with Brandon Williamson taking the mound for the Reds and Jose Quintana heading out there for the Mets. Quintana has actually been very good over the last two seasons, but he’s definitely beatable. And the Mets will feel great about their chances of getting to Williamson, as they have been hitting lefties hard over the last couple of months. These also happen to be two teams with unreliable bullpens, so there could be some runs scored in the later innings. Overall, it just seems very realistic to expect at least 10 runs in this game.
Bet: Over 9 (-115)
San Francisco Giants (-170, 12) at Colorado Rockies
This season, Wilmer Flores is batting .288 with 22 doubles and 22 homers against right-handed pitching. With that in mind, he’s the first player I looked to back in this afternoon’s meeting with the Rockies. This game has the highest total on the board today, which makes sense considering it features a mediocre pitching battle and is being played at Coors Field. This should be one of the most high-scoring games of the day, and I can’t quite imagine that coming true without Flores doing some damage at the plate. The Rockies are throwing righty Chris Flexen in this game, and the 29-year-old has a 7.22 ERA this season. Flores should be able to rack up a few hits or come away with an extra base hit here. And I also wouldn’t be that shocked if he went yard.
Bet: Flores Over 1.5 Total Bases (-130)
