Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies (Game 2 of Doubleheader)
Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler has been dominant, posting a 2.42 ERA with 11.2 strikeouts and 1.8 walks per nine innings. Braves starter Chris Sale has a 3.36 ERA and has allowed just six runs over his past five starts. However, he’s backed by a Braves team that’s just 9-19 on the road this season, while the Phillies are 18-8 at home.
Pick: Phillies Game 2 Moneyline -110 (Greg’s Handicap: Phillies -144)
7:07 PM Eastern
Oakland Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Blue Jays starter José Berríos has historically performed much better at home, posting a career 3.61 ERA with fewer than one home run allowed and nine strikeouts per nine innings. On the road, those numbers inflate to a 4.56 ERA, nearly 1.5 home runs allowed, and 8.1 strikeouts per nine. Athletics starter Jacob Lopez owns a 2.57 ERA but has only pitched 14 innings across five appearances, with 5.1 walks per nine innings. He’s supported by a bullpen that ranks 28th in ERA at 5.98.
Pick: Blue Jays Moneyline -138 (Greg’s Handicap: Blue Jays -149)
9:40 PM Eastern
Washington Nationals vs. Seattle Mariners
Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore is due for positive regression—he has a 3.47 ERA but a 2.81 FIP, along with 13.4 strikeouts per nine innings. Mariners starter Emerson Hancock has a 5.95 ERA, skewed by two poor outings. He’s allowed three runs or fewer in six of his eight starts and is backed by a Mariners bullpen that ranks 10th in ERA at 3.41.
Pick: Nationals vs. Mariners Under 7.5 Runs (Greg’s Handicapped Total: 7.4)
