Tuley’s Takes Today: Friday betting recaps, updated MLB stats, Saturday picks 7/30

Friday was yet another long day in Reno as we completed my daughter’s orientation program at UNR, hung out with some new friends, went to a movie (“DC League of Super-Pets” – I give it a thumbs-down) and had dinner at Olive Garden.
Our flight home was scheduled for 8:40 p.m. PT, and the day got longer as it ended up being delayed for more than 3 hours because of the thunderstorms back in Las Vegas, which meant we spent 4 hours in the terminal and on the tarmac before taking off. We didn’t land back in Vegas until after 1 a.m. Saturday and then – because flights had been delayed all night coming into Vegas, we had to circle before being able to land, and then there weren’t any available gates, so we had to taxi for a while longer. When all was said and done, I didn’t get back to the Tuley’s Takes home office until nearly 2:30 a.m. to be able to finish this column.
The silver lining was we had another winning day with our MLB underdogs. For the third straight day, we pushed our Best Bet of the day on the Marlins 1st 5 %plussign% 105 vs. the Mets as they were tied 3-3 after the first 5 innings. We’re also happy that we passed on the Marlins on the game ML as they ended up losing 6-4
And it became a profitable day as we hit our secondary play for the second day in a row as the A’s 1st 5 %plussign% 155 cashed as they led the White Sox 3-1 after the first 5 innings and then went on to win 7-3 to also cash the game money line of %plussign% 180 (closed %plussign% 175 as you’ll see below, but we got the %plussign% 180.
I have to get up early to do “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” (I hit a 21-1 shot last Saturday, two weeks after scoring with a 36-1 bomb), so let’s recap the rest of Thursday’s results and look for plays on Saturday.

Friday’s recaps

Top MLB Resources:

MLB: Faves went 10-4 Friday with the Rangers-Angels closing pick-’em. Upsets were by the Tigers (%plussign% 290 in 4-2 win at Blue Jays), A’s (%plussign% 175 in 7-3 win at White Sox), Cubs (%plussign% 118 in 4-2 win at Giants) and Guardians (%plussign% 112 in 4-1 win at Rays). Road teams went 11-4. Unders went 9-6.

More MLB: Faves lead 884-591 SU (59.9 percent) on the season with 25 pick-'ems (faves usually win around 59 percent; still ahead of pace, but gap has been narrowing as they’re back below 60 percent). Home teams lead just 783-717 (52.2 percent, but usually closer to 54 percent). Unders lead 740-688-70 (51.8 percent).

Saturday’s Takes

Rangers 1st 5 %plussign% 105 at Angels: I have no problem fading the Angels again, especially with the Rangers who have won 6 of the last 7 in the season series. And while Glen Otto (4-7, 5.37 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) isn’t the strongest starter for the Rangers, he’s still better than the Angels’ Chase Silseth. For Saturday’s second choice, we’ll come back again with the A’s/Blackburn 1st 5 %plussign% 140 at the White Sox/Cueto.

Good luck today (and every day!).
