Wednesday Betting Recaps
Welcome to our daily recap of the sports betting results from the night before.
In case you missed it yesterday, we’ve started splitting our “Tuley’s Takes” columns into two separate pieces: this FREE article where I put on my old-time reporters’ hat with my “press” card as we recap the betting action from the night before and update league-wide ATS stats in the various sports, and then another one where I put on my handicappers’ hat (just one of my many VSiN or other baseball caps) and offer my Best Bets on today’s wagering menu.
Links to both articles should be found in VSiN’s FREE daily newsletter (subscribers should already be receiving that in their inbox each morning; newbies can sign up for free at https://vsin.com/newsletter/) or on the VSiN.com website, though I advise my regular readers to also bookmark my dedicated VSiN page at https://vsin.com/news/dave-tuley-columns/.
So, without further ado, here’s my recaps from last night’s betting action as home teams dominated in both the NBA and NHL playoffs (though the biggest upset of the night was the NHL’s Florida Panthers winning as +185 road dogs while evening their first-round series vs. the record-setting Bruins), but road teams continued their hot MLB run.
In another interesting betting note not included in the recaps below: NBA straight-up winners also improved to 16-0 ATS with the Nuggets’ close call in covering as 8-point faves in their 122-113 loss vs. the Timberwolves as no dog has covered in a loss so far this postseason (either the fave has covered the spread or the dog has won outright).
NBA: Home teams went 3-0 SU and ATS in Wednesday’s games while favorites went 2-1 SU and ATS with the Grizzlies upsetting the Lakers 103-93 as 1-point home underdogs. The Bucks (-6 in 138-122 win vs. Heat) and Nuggets (-8 in 122-113 win vs. Timberwolves) covered as home faves. Overs led 2-1.
More NBA: Faves improved to 10-6 SU and ATS so far in the 1st round. Home teams improved to 12-4 SU & ATS (difference due to Kings & Grizzlies winning as short home underdogs in their respective Game 2s). Unders dipped to 9-7 (13-9 if including the play-in tournament). The "zig-zag theory" (aka "loser of the last") went 2-1 ATS as the Grizzlies and Bucks bounced back from Game 1 losses while the Timberwolves came up just short of covering, so the zig-zag is back to .500 at 4-4 ATS.
NHL: Home faves went 3-1 on Wednesday (after dogs swept 4-0 on Tuesday) with the upset by the Panthers (+185 in 6-3 win at Bruins). The Hurricanes (-170 in 4-3 OT win vs. Islanders), Stars (-160 in 7-3 win vs. Wild) and Oilers (-250 in 4-2 win vs. Kings) won as chalk. Overs led 3-1. In the first round, dogs and road teams still lead 7-5. Overs take 7-5 lead.
MLB: Faves went 10-5 with upsets by the Brewers (+120 at Mariners), Padres (+105 vs. Braves), Rangers (+100 at Royals), Astros (+100 vs. Blue Jays) and Giants (-103 at Marlins). Road teams dominated at 11-4 (22-10 the last two days and 39-18 the last four days). Unders led 9-5-1 with the push in TOR-HOU. (9). On the season, faves lead 169-106 with 4 PKs. Road teams improved to 145-134 thanks to the recent run. Overs dipped to 144-123-12 (53.9%).
