NBA Best Bets Today – January 30
Utah Jazz at New York Knicks – 7:30 pm ET
The Jazz are coming off a bad road loss to the Brooklyn Nets, and they now must play the second night of a back-to-back. However, the fact that they didn’t have to travel helps them in this meeting with the Knicks. New York actually had to fly from Charlotte after last night’s win, so the Knicks could actually be the more fatigued team here. That’s part of the reason I’m taking a shot on the Jazz to cover. I’m also sprinkling the moneyline.
I know Julius Randle’s absence didn’t bother New York at all last night. But this is a Knicks team that can hurt for offense on a good night. Well, Randle is a guy that can really create for himself and teammates. That’s going to catch up to New York in some match-ups. And I can see it doing so here. The Jazz can be an explosive offensive team when they’re playing well. And I expect them to be fired up after last night.
Utah is also 21-9 against the spread when coming off a loss by 10 or more since last season. On top of that, the Jazz are 27-14 ATS when coming off a road loss in that span.
Bet: Jazz +4.5 (-110 – 1.5 units) & Jazz ML (+152 – 0.5 units)
Los Angeles Lakers at Atlanta Hawks – 7:30 pm ET
I have been looking to fade the Lakers against teams that shoot a lot more 3s than they do. Well, the Hawks qualify there. Atlanta is actually seventh in the league in 3s attempted per game. The Hawks are shooting 37.7 triples per night, while the Lakers are shooting just 30.5. It’s just hard to overcome a bad shot profile without being an elite defensive team. But the Lakers are just 15th in the league in defensive rating. On top of that, Los Angeles is coming off a bad road loss to the Houston Rockets last night. So, the Lakers could have tired legs here, and they could also opt to rest some players.
Of course, I know how hard it can be to back this Hawks team. But Atlanta did earn a 126-125 win over Toronto on Sunday, and the team will have a nice edge in rest here. The Hawks are also hosting a Lakers team that is now 9-16 straight-up and 11-14 ATS on the road this season. When you combine all of that with the edge in firepower Atlanta will have in the backcourt, I think the Hawks are worthy of being one of tonight’s NBA best bets — especially with Anthony Davis banged up.
Bet: Hawks -4.5 (-115)
NBA Player Props Today – January 30
Indiana Pacers at Boston Celtics – 7:30 pm ET
Pascal Siakam was averaging 2.1 turnovers per game for the Toronto Raptors. He’s now averaging 1.7 turnovers per game with the Pacers. Now, Siakam faces a Celtics team that is third in the league in adjusted defensive rating. And Boston has the length on the wing to make Siakam uncomfortable in a way that many other teams can’t. Siakam has already faced this Celtics team four times this season. He’s averaging 1.8 turnovers per game in those contests. That said, I’m playing him to cough it up twice at plus-money odds with tonight’s NBA player props.
Bet: Siakam Over 1.5 Turnovers (+105 – 1.5 units)
Added Plays
Warriors -3.5 (-115 – 2 units) vs. 76ers
