NBA Best Bets Today – Wednesday, January 28
Raptors ML (-120) vs. Knicks
Knicks at Raptors – 7:30 pm ET
This is a really strong spot for the Raptors, who are coming off two days of rest and facing a Knicks team that played the Kings last night. New York was expected to wipe the floor with Sacramento, but it ended up being close until the fourth quarter. That meant that Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, and Deuce McBride all had to play at least 30 minutes, so there could be some tired legs for New York tonight.
I also like the on-court matchup here. The Raptors are the fifth-ranked team in the league when looking at adjusted defensive rating (112.4), so they should be ready to slow down the Knicks offense. Meanwhile, New York is one of the worst defensive teams in basketball, so Toronto’s mediocre offense should look a lot better.
The Knicks are also 0-5 straight-up — and 1-4 against the spread — as road underdogs this season. Meanwhile, the Raptors are 27-18 SU as home favorites under Darko Rajakovic.
Mavericks +7.5 (-114 – 1.5 units) vs. Timberwolves
Wolves at Mavericks – 8:30 pm ET
The Timberwolves are set to play their third game in four nights, and they haven’t played all that well lately. Before beating a Stephen Curry-less Warriors team the other night, they had lost five consecutive games. That said, this is a struggling team that happens to be in a poor rest spot. Meanwhile, the Mavericks haven’t played since Saturday, so they should be well-rested — and will hopefully have Cooper Flagg, despite his questionable tag.
Dallas has been an awesome ATS team when facing strong competition this year, as the team is 9-1 ATS as a home underdog and 7-1 ATS when playing at home against teams that outscore opponents by 3.0 or more points per game.
As long as Flagg is out there, I just trust the Mavericks to hang around. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they can find a way to win. I know I have been pro-Timberwolves over the last few weeks, but my futures on Minnesota have a lot to do with the moves I think are coming at the trade deadline.
