NBA Best Bets Today – Thursday, March 18
Heat ML (-134 – 1.5 units) vs. Lakers
Lakers at Heat – 8:00 pm ET
I’m getting really sick of losing on Lakers games. My reads over the last 2-3 weeks have been pretty good, but being on the wrong side of Los Angeles’ recent winning stretch has destroyed my bankroll. The Lakers are just playing fantastic team defense right now, while Luka Doncic is doing some outrageous things offensively. However, you absolutely have to stick to your guns when doing this every night, and this is a brutal rest spot for Los Angeles — and a good one for Miami. With that in mind, while I’m certainly impressed with the Lakers right now, I have to go with the Heat.
Los Angeles is about to play its third game in four nights, along with a second leg of a road back-to-back. This team is 1-2 straight-up on the season when playing on the road for the second straight night, so this situation hasn’t been great to JJ Redick’s group this year. Miami also happens to be playing for only the second time in five nights, so the Heat are well rested coming into this one. They’re also 6-2 both straight-up and against the spread when playing in this rest situation.
It’s also hard to ignore that Miami has been playing some very good basketball lately. While the Lakers are 11-4 with a net rating of +6.9 over the last 15 games, the Heat are 10-5 with a net rating of +6.6. Erik Spoelstra has Miami doing great things on both ends of the floor, and I just can’t see him letting this one get away.
I did get a better number on this, jumping on it at -134 earlier in the morning. However, I’d play the moneyline up to -150, or I’d just look to lay the points.
Kings ML (+127) vs. 76ers
76ers at Kings – 10:00 pm ET
I’m taking a chance on the Kings to beat the 76ers tonight. I don’t think I’ll find too many spots in which I’ll be looking to back a tanking team against a playoff team, but I’m just not sure the roster Sacramento will have on the floor is less talented than the one we’ll see from Philadelphia tonight. The 76ers remain without Tyrese Maxey and Paul George, while Joel Embiid is listed as doubtful. The Sixers will also be without Kelly Oubre Jr. this evening.
There’s just going to be a lot riding on VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes tonight, and the Kings come into this one having won four of their last six games. This is a Sacramento team that is trying to develop some of its young rotation pieces, but Doug Christie continues to find minutes for his veterans. That said, the Kings are absolutely a tanking team, but they’re still competing on a nightly basis.
Added Plays (Late Picks, Parlays, Teasers, Futures)
