Thunder ML (-135 – 1.5 units) vs. Celtics

Thunder at Celtics – 7:30 pm ET

Since the All-Star break, the Thunder are 15-1 and have the league’s best raw defensive rating (105.0). Oklahoma City also enters this contest on a 12-game winning streak, plus the team is fully healthy. In looking at the injury report, you won’t find any of the Thunder rotation players listed. That means Mark Daigneault has his entire tool kit to work with. Of course, you might see a minute restriction with Jalen Williams, who just returned to action. However, he had 18 points, six assists, and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action last game. That was a good performance in his first outing back, and he should play a big role here.

I know the Celtics have been as good as anyone recently, but I do feel like it’s unfair to expect this win from them this early in Jayson Tatum’s return from a torn Achilles. While Tatum has looked much better than expected — and is playing more minutes than you’d think — he has also looked a little slow on defense. On top of that, he’s not quite there with his offensive efficiency. All of that is to be expected, but it’s also going to make it difficult for Boston to top an elite Oklahoma City team.

With minus-level defenders — including this version of Tatum — scattered throughout the Celtics rotation, I expect the Thunder offense to look like a machine tonight. It’s also hard not to feel like OKC has the wing defenders required to slow down Tatum and Jaylen Brown. On top of that, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is so good that he could render Derrick White’s defense useless. I also think the Thunder big man rotation is going to really make things rough on a Celtics center group that leaves a lot to be desired.

Oklahoma City also happens to be 65-28 straight-up as a road favorite over the last three seasons, and the team is also 47-24 SU in that span when facing opponents with winning percentages between 60% and 70%. The Thunder are relatively unbothered when facing good competition. Also, for anyone that wants to note the poor rest spot, they also happen to be 16-5 SU when playing a third road game in a five-day span.
