NBA Best Bets Today – Friday, March 6

Trail Blazers +6.5 (-110) vs. Rockets

Blazers at Rockets – 8:00 pm ET

At this point in the year, I think people are sleeping on the Rockets a bit. They’re one of the five teams in the league currently in the top-10 in both adjusted offensive rating and defensive rating. Having said that, Houston is coming off a brutal overtime loss to Golden State. In that game, Kevin Durant played 41 minutes, Jabari Smith Jr. played 42, Amen Thompson played 44, and both Alperen Sengun and Reed Sheppard played 37. It was just a physically draining game for the Rockets, and having to come back a day later will be a challenge.

The Blazers are going to be without Deni Avdija here, as he’s listed as doubtful and appears to be heading towards another missed contest. Portland is also playing without Shaedon Sharpe. However, the Blazers didn’t have a game last night, plus this will be their second game in five days. Under Tiago Splitter this season, Portland is 9-7 against the spread when playing only a second game in five days, so this rest situation has been kind to the team.

This is also a meeting between two defensive-minded teams, meaning it could be sloppy and lower in scoring. Well, in those types of games, you generally want the points. So, while I do wish I was getting 7 or 7.5, I’m grabbing the 6.5.

Clippers +7.5 (-110) vs. Spurs

Clippers at Spurs – 9:30 pm ET

The Spurs are coming off a big win over the Pistons last night. That’s the type of game that players get up for, as it’s a potential NBA Finals preview. Well, when you get up for one regular-season game, it’s always natural to come out flat for another — especially on the second leg of a back-to-back. That said, this could be a let-down spot for San Antonio.

Even if the Spurs do show up tonight, I’m not sure this is a game they should win by a significant margin. While Darius Garland is sitting for Los Angeles this evening, this is still a Clippers team that has won three straight and covered in nine of the last 10. They’re simply playing some rock-solid basketball right now, with Kawhi Leonard’s otherworldly play being a big part of the reason. As long as Leonard is playing at an A+ level, it’ll be hard to expect Los Angeles to get blown out.

I also like that the Clippers have a strong defensive backcourt for a Spurs team that is loaded at the guard spot. However, I don’t like that Yanic Konan Niedehauser suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury. The rookie was really balling out at the center position, and it’s a shame to see a draft steal go down like that.

Added Plays (Late Picks, Parlays, Teasers, Futures)

Nothing yet.

QUICK NOTE: I mentioned I was interested in playing the Knicks to beat the Nuggets on today’s podcast, but I’ll back off if Aaron Gordon ends up returning. He seems to be pushing to play, but Denver wants to be cautious with him. We’ll see.
