Milwaukee Bucks at Charlotte Hornets – 7:00 pm ET
The Bucks are playing their third game in four nights, which is a situation they haven’t enjoyed under Doc Rivers. They’re just 13-18 against the spread when playing this many games in such a short period of time. Giannis Antetokounmpo is also listed as questionable heading into this one, and that’s definitely a major red flag. It seems like there’s a real chance he sits this one out.
Of course, the Hornets remain without LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, meaning this roster is missing some highly talented players. But under Charles Lee, Charlotte is 8-4 ATS when coming off three or more consecutive non-covers. The Hornets should be able to keep this game somewhat close.
While Milwaukee has a net rating of +1.5 this year, that number goes down to -4.2 on the road. Well, Charlotte’s home net rating is just -0.2, so there shouldn’t be much that separates these two when playing in the Spectrum Center. Look for Kon Knueppel to have another big game for the Hornets, which is what I called for in today’s NBA player props story.
Bet: Hornets +6.5 (-120 – 1.5 units) & Hornets ML (+180 – 0.5 units)
UPDATE: Giannis is now listed as OUT on the Bucks injury report. Charlotte now down to +2.5.
Los Angeles Lakers at Oklahoma City Thunder – 9:30 pm ET
I got absolutely crushed by the Thunder last night, as I had the Warriors to cover 7.5 and sprinkled the moneyline. Well, I only learned a small lesson in doing that: I won’t be hammering the other side against OKC again tonight. However, I still am taking Los Angeles +7.5.
Under JJ Redick, the Lakers are 16-11 ATS when playing as underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points. They’re also 34-13 straight-up and 33-13-1 ATS in games with totals between 220 and 229.5. Meanwhile, the Thunder are just 34-39 ATS under Mark Daigneault when playing the second leg of a back-to-back. That’s an important one to remember here, as this is a team that normally doesn’t play Chet Holmgren two nights in a row. Oklahoma City also happens to have a few other players dealing with injuries right now. One of them is Jalen Williams.
The Thunder are also just 4-5 ATS when facing teams that attempt 27.0 or more free throws per game. Well, don’t be surprised if Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves get themselves to the line often against a handsy OKC group.
It’s obviously fair to wonder whether or not the Lakers can consistently stop the Thunder. I want to see how they attempt to do so. However, I’m not sure OKC will be able to get a ton of stops against LA either, especially with the road team having the fresher legs.
Bet: Lakers +7.5 (-108)
Atlanta Hawks at Sacramento Kings – 10:00 pm ET
When I recorded today’s episode of Hardwood Handicappers — available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube — I mentioned the Kings being worth a look at +4.5. However, shortly after filming, I actually found a reasonably priced 5.5. That put me through a key basketball number without having to pay up as much as I thought I would, so I put a little more on Sacramento. That 5.5 is still out there at bet365, and I’m keeping my sprinkle on the Kings moneyline at +140.
I’m just not sure Atlanta should be expected to win this game comfortably. I’m actually not even sure the team should be expected to win at all. It took a Vit Krejci 28-point performance for the Hawks to earn a win over the Clippers last game. I’m still not sold on the Atlanta offense without Trae Young, and I think that’s where I’m highest on Sacramento tonight. Will the Kings’ mediocre defense be tested this evening? If it’s not, I’m not sure I care how good the Hawks are defensively. Over the course of a 48-minute game, Sacramento’s shot-making talent should win out.
I also think we’re going to see a hungry Kings team tonight. Doug Christie delivered a passionate speech about Sacramento basketball in a press conference the other night, and this is the first truly winnable game the Kings have played since. They got romped by the Thunder, Timberwolves, and Nuggets, losing those three games by a combined 72 points. Playing the Hawks should be child’s play after all of those games.
Quin Snyder is also just 2-17 ATS on the road with the Hawks when coming off a game in which his team scored 105 or fewer points. Atlanta has lost those games by an average of 10.8 points per game. The Hawks are also 14-35 ATS as favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 under Snyder.
Bet: Kings +5.5 (-140 – 1.5 units) & Kings ML (+140 – 0.5 units)
