NBA Best Bets Today – April 7th

Sacramento Kings at Detroit Pistons – 7:00 pm ET

I would normally look to fade a team like the Kings, as they’re playing the second leg of a back-to-back and are in a classic letdown spot after having defeated the Cavaliers last night. However, Sacramento has also won two games in a row, with Domantas Sabonis’ return seemingly providing the team with a spark. The Kings also have a little left to play for moving forward, as they’re looking to edge out the Mavericks for home-court advantage in the 9 vs. 10 Play-In Tournament game. So, I’m not sure Sacramento is in a position to succumb to fatigue. The Kings need to battle and treat this like the winnable game it is. The Pistons have been a great story all year long, but they’re not operating on another level when compared to the Kings. These teams are very similar, meaning Sacramento is getting a lot of points — and the moneyline price is hard to pass on.

Unless multiple players sit for the Kings, the team has a pretty big advantage when it comes to firepower in the backcourt. Sabonis should also be able to impose his will in the paint. The only thing I’m worried about here is that Sacramento is the second-worst team in the league when it comes to guarding the 3-point line. The Kings are giving up 14.7 made 3s per game this season. Opponents are also shooting 38.3% from deep against them. So, they’re going to need to be disciplined when it comes to guarding guys like Malik Beasley and Tim Hardaway Jr. off the ball. But I do like that Sacramento will have Keon Ellis to throw on Cade Cunningham. While Ellis will be giving up size in that matchup, he’s going to take pride in getting up and playing chest-to-chest defense.

Realistically, this just feels like a game that could go down to the wire, so it makes sense to grab some points and sprinkle the moneyline. In terms of talent, Sacramento has a small advantage over Detroit. And the matchups are pretty strong for the Kings. Detroit’s home-court advantage in a regular-season game shouldn’t be enough to scare you off Sacramento.

Bet: Kings +7 (-110 – 1.5 units) & Kings ML (+222 – 0.5 units)
