Andrews: Inside the betting action for NFL Week 5 games

237

It is only Week 5 of the NFL season, but we sure have had quite a few injuries/changes at the quarterback position – and it has changed things in the market.
The Saints, Steelers, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, 49ers, and Cowboys are all starting someone this week that was not their starting quarterback in Week 1. There were two games this week on which I moved the number simply based on quarterback news, not action.
By the way, we are doing pretty good business on the postseason baseball, but nowhere near what we are doing on football. Here are the Week 5 games in official Nevada rotation order.

New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers (-8, 41) in London, England

Not much business here. We opened the game 8. Decent two-way action but we’ve never moved the number on the side. On the total, we opened 41.5 and got a little play on the Under, so we’re at 41.

Seattle Seahawks at New Orleans Saints (-4.5, 45)

This one has moved quite a bit. We opened the game 5 and the first action came in minus the 5. I went to 5.5 and we were writing two-way business at 5.5 when the news came out that Jameis Winston is not going to play. I went to 4.5 based on the news and I kind of favor Seattle in the game regardless. We opened the total 45, they bet me Over and I went to 46. When the Winston news came out, I went back to 45.

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-7, 44)

We opened the game 7 and quite a few big bets came in plus the 7. I went to 6.5 and they bet it back pretty strong minus the 6.5, so we’re back to 7, but I’m still pretty heavy on the Texans %plussign% 7. We opened the total 44.5. They bet me Under, nothing major, but I went to 44 with it.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills (-14, 46)

We opened 14 and it really scared a lot of people away. Nothing very big either way on the side. On the total, we opened 47 and got bet Under. They bet me Under 46.5 and now we’re at 46.

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-9.5, 47)

Lotta movement here. We opened 8, they laid me the 8, laid me the 8.5. I went to 9 and they laid that, too, so we’re at 9.5 now with business all the way up the ladder on Tampa Bay. I see some 10’s out there, but I haven’t got enough to move me to 10 yet. I opened the total 48, they bet me Under and I went straight to 47. That’s where we are right now.

Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings (-7.5, 44)

We opened 7, they laid me the 7, and I went to 7.5. Since then there hasn’t been much business at 7.5. Some public and some sharp money on the 7 but no interest on the Vikings -7.5 and no interest in the Bears plus the 7.5. I will say, though, I have seen games like these where you get a run once it crosses the 7, up to 8, 8.5, even 9. I’m not saying it is going to happen here but I have seen that before and I don’t have much interest at all on the Bears. The total hasn’t moved at all.

Tennessee Titans (-2, 43) at Washington Commanders

We opened this game 3 and they took the 3 for a pretty sizable bet. I went to 2.5 and they kept taking the 2.5, nothing big but I saw it drop elsewhere, so I wound up going to 2 on the game. Now at 2, I am starting to get the money back on the Titans minus the 2. Also, when I was at 2.5 on the side, I took a limit bet on the money line at 125. I moved the money line to -135/%plussign% 115 at the same time that I went to Titans -2. We opened the total 42.5. They bet me Over 42.5, I went to 43, they bet me Over that and I went to 44. They bet me Under 44 and I’m back to 43 on the total.

MIami Dolphins (-3.5, 45.5) at New York Jets

A little bit of that dance again that we spoke about last week. They love the 3, 3.5 thing. We opened the game 3.5 and they took it. I went to 3 and they laid it back. Now we’re back at 3.5 and seeing excellent action on this game. Lotta play on the total, too. We opened 44.5. First bet was Under 44.5, then Under 44. I went to 43 and they bet me Over 43 and then Over 44, and we are now at 45 on the total.

Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5, 47) at Cleveland Browns

We opened the Chargers -3. They took the 3, we went to 2.5, and the public is definitely back on the Chargers minus the 2.5 but not enough yet to push me back up to 3. This is another game where they played me on the money line, too. They took %plussign% 140 on the Browns, took %plussign% 125, and they are even taking %plussign% 115, but I have not moved it off of %plussign% 115. We opened the total 48.5. They bet me Under and I went to 48, they bet me Under 48 and now I’m at 47. Pretty good play on the Under here.

Detroit Lions at New England Patriots (-3, 45)

We opened the Patriots -2.5. They laid the 2.5, they laid the 3. They took back the 3.5 pretty good and then we got word that Mac Jones is out, so we went to 3, mostly on the news. We’re at 3 right now but we’re still pretty high on New England although with Jones out, I think 3 is a good number. We opened the total 46.5. They bet me Under and I went to 46, but with the Jones news, I went to 45.

San Francisco 49ers (-6.5, 39) at Carolina Panthers

We opened 6.5 and haven’t moved it. The recreational players are way big on the Niners and almost nothing on the Panthers. I have a feeling this game will get to 7 eventually and the wise guys will probably take the 7, but no sharp play either way yet on this one. We opened this total 39.5, they bet me Under and I’m at 39.

Philadelphia Eagles (-5, 48.5) at Arizona Cardinals

I opened the Eagles -6. They took the 6, they took the 5.5, and I’m at 5 right now, but the public is starting to play back the minus 5. Sharp money on the %plussign% 6 and the %plussign% 5.5. Good play on the total here. They bet me Under 49.5, I moved it a point, and I’m at 48.5 now – and starting to get a little Over play on the 48.5.

Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams (-4.5, 42)

We opened this Rams -5 before the Monday Night game last week. We reopened it 4.5 after that and at 4.5 I’m actually getting really good two-way play. I do have a couple of guys who have laid the -120 and bought it down to 4. I opened the total 43.5. They bet me Under 43.5, Under 43, and now I’m at 42.

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-3.5, 48)

I opened 3 and they laid it to me. We are getting play back at 3.5, but nothing too strong yet. I do have a feeling we will get play plus the 3.5. We opened the total 48.5, they bet me Under and I’m at 48.

Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-7, 51.5)

I opened 7.5 and they took it, so now I’m at 7 and they’re still taking the 7. This is going to be a big action game. I’m a little heavy on the Raiders plus the 7, but there’s plenty of public money on the Chiefs minus the 7, too. I opened the total 51, they bet me Over and I’m at 51.5.
