Bears vs. Seahawks Analysis

Within the last couple of days, we have seen both of these teams make splashy trade acquisitions. The Bears traded for All-Pro Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons — and it sounds like they could also be nearing a deal for Khalil Mack. Meanwhile, the Seahawks bolstered their offensive line by trading for Quenton Nelson, who is widely viewed as a top-tier player at his position. Both of these teams feel they are Super Bowl contenders, so they were happily willing to part with future assets to patch up some holes.

We’ll now see the two new-look teams battle in Seattle, where the Seahawks are favored by a field goal — despite a good amount of public interest in the Bears, according to our betting splits pages.

Fading Chicago is undoubtedly a little unsettling, as Ben Johnson’s offense can burn you in a hurry. However, if anyone can slow down the Bears, it’s Mike Macdonald’s Seahawks. This season, Seattle is No. 2 in the NFL in EPA/Play Allowed (-0.118), ranking third in both Dropback (-0.070) and Rush (-0.196) EPA/Play Allowed. There won’t be any real weaknesses for Caleb Williams and Co. to pick at, making it pretty easy to envision this being a tough week for the Bears — at least relative to expectations.

The Seahawks also happened to wake up offensively last week, posting a 0.156 EPA/Play in a 20-3 win over the Chiefs. Sam Darnold didn’t play a flawless game in that one, but he was doing a good job of sending the ball Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s way. If Seattle’s offensive line, with a new hog molly now in the mix, can keep Darnold clean, he should be able to do the same exact thing against Chicago — and an improved running game couldn’t hurt, so it’ll be interesting to see if Nelson can immediately help there.

Seattle has also been awesome at home under Macdonald. The team is 13-3 straight-up and 8-5 against the spread as a home favorite with him on the sidelines. To add to that, the Seahawks are 10-3 SU and 9-2-2 ATS when coming off a home win under Macdonald.

Bears vs. Seahawks Player Props

LEAN: Smith-Njigba Over 97.5 Receiving Yards (-113)

This isn’t a game in which I’m looking to get involved from a prop angle, but our OptaAI player prop projections have quite a few pro-Seattle props if you’re joining me on that side of things. OptaAI has Darnold finishing with 244.49 passing yards, which is a bit higher than his DraftKings total of 237.5. OptaAI also has Smith-Njigba with an edge to the Over, as he’s projected for 105.01 receiving yards. The Smith-Njigba one was tempting for me, as our WR-CB Matchup Tool also has him with Week 8’s biggest advantage over the man covering him: Malik Muhammad.

Bears vs. Seahawks Pick

I hate myself whenever I end up betting against the Bears, but it’s too hard to lay off the Seahawks laying only a field goal at home. Seattle looked like a different team against Kansas City last week, and I’m expecting that same Seahawks group to show up in front of the 12s on Monday.

Bet: Seahawks -3 (-107)
