Commanders vs. 49ers Analysis
Since Dan Quinn took over in Washington, the Over is 15-2 when his team is an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5 points. The Over also happens to be 5-2 when the Commanders have taken on teams with winning percentages of 75% or higher under Quinn. The reason for that is Washington has been extremely disappointing defensively under Quinn, even with the head coach having a reputation as a defensive mastermind. At the same time, the team has been able to move the ball since Daniels arrived. So, Washington has been a shootout-prone team, and that hasn’t changed in 2026.
Once again, the Commanders are a bottom-10 team when looking at EPA/Play Allowed (0.050), and the team’s passing defense is the reason for that. Only seven teams entered Week 6 with a higher Dropback EPA/Play Allowed than Washington’s 0.157. Meanwhile, Daniels remains a high-level quarterback, whether you’re looking at traditional or advanced numbers. That means the Commanders remain a high-octane offensive team but an unreliable defensive team. Well, against an offensive juggernaut like the 49ers, that makes the Over enticing.
Brock Purdy entered Week 6 as Pro Football Focus’ second-ranked starting quarterback (88.5), and he’s doing a masterful job of pulling the strings for a San Francisco offense that is second in football in EPA/Play (0.185). The 49ers also have one of the most explosive rushers in football in Christian McCaffrey, meaning they can absolutely shred shaky defenses. That’s exactly what I think they’ll do here, even with some injuries to key skill-position weapons.
It also doesn’t hurt that the Over is 39-21-2 when San Francisco is a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points under Kyle Shanahan. Also, the Over is 9-5 in the 14 Monday Night Football games the 49ers have played under Shanahan. That could be nothing, like most trends tend to be. However, with an injury-prone team like San Francisco, perhaps that speaks to the extra preparation and treatment the 49ers get with a longer week. Either way, I think we’ll see some points.
If you’re strictly looking at the spread, that’s where things get tougher. Everything about this game screams blowout, but our Circa Sports betting splits do show some sharp money on the road team. While San Francisco has taken most of the bets, the 49ers have moved from -8 to -7.5 at Circa. That means there’s smart money on the Commanders, if you’re brave enough to join them.

LEAN: Daniels Over 206.5 Passing Yards (-111)
Daniels could go Over a total of 206.5 in a normal game, as this number seems extremely reasonable. However, the reason to like this one even more is that the game script could call for a ton of Daniels in the second half. If you believe San Francisco will be pouncing on Washington, that means Daniels will be asked to make a lot of plays for his team in order to bring the Commanders back.

The total for this game definitely feels a bit high, but we have seen at least 54 points in three of Washington’s last four games. We have also seen at least 56 points in two of San Francisco’s last three. I’m expecting similar fireworks in this one. Our Commanders-49ers matchup page shows a projected total of 52.5 for this one, which is what you’ll find at several prominent books. However, you can find 51.5 if you look hard enough.
