Cowboys vs. Eagles Analysis

I was extremely high on the Cowboys heading into the season, as I was expecting them to look more like a league-average team defensively. Well, heading into Week 7, Dallas’ EPA/Play Allowed was 0.154, which was the second-worst mark in football. With that in mind, this feels like the same old Cowboys squad, and that’s a team that the Tanner McKee-led Eagles can beat.

With Saquon Barkley expected back for this game, it just shouldn’t surprise anyone if Philadelphia has some success on the ground. This Dallas defense is a bottom-10 group when it comes to Rush EPA/Play Allowed (-0.076). Well, if the Eagles are doing a decent job of picking up some yardage on early downs, that’ll make McKee’s job a heck of a lot easier. McKee also happens to be an interesting player. While he hasn’t yet had his opportunities to shine, he had fans in the 2023 NFL Draft as a 6-foot-6 quarterback with a high football IQ. It shouldn’t shock anyone if he settles into this role nicely. He’s only going to get more comfortable as he gets more and more first-team reps, and facing a soft Cowboys secondary should allow him to ease into things — especially in a home game.

Philadelphia has also had a little extra time to get prepared for this game, and even an extra day should help defensive coordinator Vic Fangio get his defense ready for this Dallas aerial attack. And for what it’s worth, Fangio has had success against Dak Prescott in his career. Prescott has a losing record against Fangio, with a lot of that having to do with the coordinator’s ability to mix up coverages and confuse the quarterback pre-snap. Let’s see if he can keep it up here, even with a banged-up — and less talented — group.

This game will, however, test some Nick Sirianni trends. While the Super Bowl-winning head coach is 34-16 straight-up in home games in his career, the Eagles are 0-8 SU and 1-7 against the spread as home underdogs under him. However, in favor of that second trend potentially being bucked, Brian Schottenheimer is 1-4 both SU and ATS as a road favorite as the Cowboys head coach.

Cowboys vs. Eagles Player Props

LEAN: McKee Over 4.5 Rushing Yards (-113)

Nobody is going to mistake McKee for a rushing quarterback, so don’t expect him to look anything like Hurts. However, our OptaAI player prop projections have him finishing with 6.26 rushing yards, which is a decent edge to the Over on his low total. It’s also worth noting that Dallas has allowed more QB rushing yards than anyone this season, so the matchup is right.

Cowboys vs. Eagles Pick

I was able to get a +5 with Philadelphia, so I imagine many will be able to do the same. However, even if it’s no longer available, I’d be fine with playing the Eagles at +4 or +4.5. Realistically, this Dallas defense can’t be trusted, making it hard not to like the home team with the points. I’m also going to sprinkle the Eagles moneyline. I have a strong feeling Philadelphia gets the job done, and I love the fact that Dallas looks to be a very popular public bet on our betting splits pages.

Bet: Eagles +5 (-110) & Eagles ML (+190 – 0.5 units)
