Giants vs. Patriots Analysis

This season, the Patriots are 6-0 straight-up and 4-2 against the spread as favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points. However, Mike Vrabel is just 2-3-1 ATS as a favorite of 7.5 to 14 points in his coaching career. He also hasn’t been all that reliable as a home favorite, going 2-2-1 ATS with New England and 14-18-2 ATS in his career. With that in mind, bigger spreads clearly haven’t been kind to Vrabel backers, and this week might not be any different. The Patriots are also a trendy public favorite, securing a good portion of the tickets when looking at the betting splits. But sharp bettors appear to be interested in the road team, as New York is getting more of the handle — which is true at both DraftKings and Circa Sports.

If I had to take a side here, I’d probably grab the points with the Giants. However, the play I like most is the Over. Jaxson Dart will be back under center for New York, and the team averages 23.6 points per game with the rookie at the helm. That’s a pretty good number considering the lack of talent at the skill positions, but Dart is just so dynamic with his legs. He’s also capable of making some plays with his arm, which is why he has a rock-solid Pro Football Focus grade of 71.5 this year.

If Dart can get a little something going with the Giants offense, there’s a chance this turns into a very high-scoring game. That’s because the Patriots should put a pretty big number on the scoreboard. This New England team, led by star second-year quarterback Drake Maye, is seventh in the NFL in both EPA per play (0.104) and scoring offense (26.5). Meanwhile, New York is 31st in the NFL in EPA per play allowed (0.149), with only Cincinnati’s miserable defense looking like a worse unit.

The Over has also been a good play with the Giants recently. The Over has hit in six of the last eight games they have played. Also, New York has gone Over its team total in eight of the 12 games the team has played this year. And New England has gone Over its team total in seven of its 12 games. These teams both exceed expectations on the scoreboard regularly, so why not hope this game ends up having a lot of points?

Giants vs. Patriots Player Props

Lean: Drake Maye Over 244.5 Passing Yards (-114)

Our OptaAI player prop projections have Maye finishing with 279.79 passing yards in this game. That said, if you’re looking for a player prop in this one, you can do a lot worse than banking on one of the best quarterbacks in football to take advantage of a great matchup. Maye has actually thrown for at least 259 yards in five straight games, and he has gone Over the mark for this game in nine of his 12 starts this year. That is a pretty strong hit rate, so he should be able to be trusted against one of the worst passing defenses in the NFL.

Giants vs. Patriots Pick

The Giants might not have the prettiest offense in the world, but Dart has pretty consistently found ways to lead successful drives. If he can continue to do that, there’s a good chance this turns into something of a shootout. The Patriots are too good offensively not to take advantage of a matchup like this, so they really should do their part. We just have to hope the weather cooperates. It’s going to be chilly, windy, and potentially a little wet.

Bet: Over 46.5 (-110)
