Giants vs. Rams Analysis
According to our VSiN betting splits, Circa Sports opened with the Rams laying a touchdown in this game, but the Giants are now getting only 6.5. However, the real story in looking at the splits is that the total has dropped from 48.5 to 47.5, even with a heavy majority of tickets being on the Over. Of course, this is a story that is being published on Sunday, so there’s still time for things to change. But as of right now (7:00 pm PST), the sharp money looks to be on the Under.
I don’t like to blindly follow the smart money, but I like a situation in which you can explain why they might be going that way. This feels like one in which you can do that.
In Los Angeles’ loss to San Francisco in Australia, the team only scored seven points. Well, under Sean McVay, the Under is 6-0 when his team is coming off a game with nine or fewer points. On top of that, the Under is 38-21-2 in games the Rams have played as home favorites with McVay on the sidelines. And for good measure, the Under is 9-5 in the 14 Monday Night Football games Los Angeles has played under McVay.
In addition to some of the trends favoring a lower scoring game than the odds call for, there’s also the fact that the Rams did have to play Down Under last week. I know they seemingly punted that one — opting to stay somewhat close to living on their normal schedules — but should we automatically assume they’re going to be 100% ready to go here? Meanwhile, the Giants did put 28 points on the Cowboys in Week 1, but that was a run-heavy offense from New York. That means they were chewing clock while moving the ball, which bodes well for an Under. The Giants will also be going up against a much better defense than they faced last week. Even with Myles Garrett injured, Los Angeles is way better — and tougher — than New York. We shouldn’t see the Giants consistently pushing the Rams line around, allowing them to pick up big gains on the ground and ease things up for Jaxson Dart in the passing game.
There’s a lot that suggests the Under is the right call here, and that’s where I’m going with my play for this one. If you’re not interested in a total, I’d look to get creative with a Rams moneyline play. Without looking around too hard, there’s a -145 out there to parlay Los Angeles with Green Bay in its Thursday Night Football meeting with Atlanta. That could be a sharp move, if you’re willing to wait a little for a payout.
Giants vs. Rams Player Props
LEAN: Kyren Williams Over 12.5 Rushing Attempts (-120)
This number is up at 13.5 and 14.5 in some spots, but there’s one prominent shop with 12.5. I actually think the number is quite low pretty much everywhere, as our OptaAI player prop projections have Williams finishing with 14.60 carries. I know Blake Corum carried the rock 10 times in Week 1, but there’s a good chance Los Angeles gets Williams 15-20 touches more often than not.
Giants vs. Rams Pick
I’m excited to see what these teams look like after wildly different Week 1 showings, and it’s undoubtedly a big game that warrants a primetime spot. However, I do think this has the potential to be somewhat ugly, so I’m going Under on 47.5.
Bet: Under 47.5 (-105)
