Monday night recap: Chiefs fail to cover in wild comeback win vs. Raiders

268

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-29 on Monday Night Football, but didn’t cover as 7-point home favorites. The game went Over the closing betting total of 51.5 points.
That’s the short story and doesn’t begin to describe a wild game that had several interesting sub-plots from the Raiders jumping out to a 17-0 lead, a controversial roughing-the-passer call that ignited the rabid crowd at Arrowhead Stadium and the Twitterverse, plus a questionable decision by Chiefs coach Andy Reid to go for a 2-point conversion when leading by 30-23.
Ultimately, the game ended up coming down to Raiders coach Josh McDaniels deciding to go for 2 and the lead when they pulled within 30-29, but RB Josh Jacobs was stopped just short of the goal line.
The 1-point margin of victory caused a ton of very popular 2-team, 6-point teasers on the Chiefs to be refunds (as bettors took them down from -7 to -1). “Vegas rules” call for “no-action” if one side of a 2-team, 6-point teaser ends in a push (check your own book for their specific house rules).
The “favorite win SU/underdog cover ATS” result happened for the 5th time in NFL Week 5 (Bears closing %plussign% 8.5 at Vikings in 29-22 loss, Falcons %plussign% 10 at Buccaneers in 21-15 loss, Cardinals %plussign% 5 vs. the Eagles in 20-17 loss and Bengals %plussign% 3 at Ravens in 19-17 loss were the others).
Overall, faves went 10-5 SU in Week 5 with 1 pick-’em (Titans-Commanders), but dogs led 10-5 ATS. Home teams went 8-7 SU with 1 neutral-site game (Giants-Packers in London), but road teams led 10-5 ATS. Unders led 9-7.
On the season, faves now lead 46-31-1 SU with 2 pick-'ems (WAS-DET in Week 2, TEN-WAS in Week 5), but dogs lead 45-30-3 ATS (60 percent). Home teams lead 41-36-1 SU with 2 neutral-site games (MIN-NO in Week 4, NYG-GB in Week 5), but road teams lead 40-35-3 ATS (53.3 percent). Unders lead 46-33-1 (58.2 percent), while primetime Unders lead 11-5 (68.8 percent).
