NFL Lookahead Lines:

Last week, I wrote about the Seattle/Atlanta total being too low at 47.5 and it’s sitting 51 at most shops now. The Chargers are also a flipped favorite against the Cardinals, now -2.5 after being +1 last week when the article was posted. It pays to look ahead and try to grab some good numbers.

Week 8 Monday Night Football

  • Giants at Steelers (-3.5, 37.5)

We learned this week that Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa expects to play again this season. Week 8 is when the oft-injured quarterback is eligible to return from IR. Does that mean he will? The answer to that appears to be “not necessarily” as of this post. VSiN’s Steve Makinen currently has the Cardinals power rated a half-point higher than the Dolphins (his NFL Power Ratings can be found here). A list of other composite power ratings has Arizona more than four points higher than Miami. The Cardinals will be coming off a Monday night game and traveling to South Florida on short rest for this game. BUT, Miami -2.5 can only be the number in my opinion if Tua is starting at QB. Taking the Cardinals plus the points right now might be worth the gamble.

The Panthers are currently catching eight points playing on the road against Jayden Daniels and the Commanders this week. The Broncos are up to -3 against a banged-up Saints squad on Thursday night. Denver will have extended rest back home and the Panthers will be playing their second straight road game. This number will only go up if Denver wins at New Orleans and Washington takes care of business against Carolina.

The Falcons and Buccaneers played a 36-30 game in Week 5 that produced nearly 900 combined yards. Eliminate overtime and it was still 30-30 with more than 800 yards. The Buccaneers and Saints produced 78 points in Week 6, and the Falcons/Panthers game combined for 58. Tampa Bay plays Baltimore this week on Monday night and the total is currently 49.5. The Atlanta/Seattle total is 51. 48 seems short for how these two teams are currently trending.

We all know Daniel Jones is 1-14 in primetime games. He hasn’t thrown a TD pass in his last seven primetime appearances. The Steelers look too easy on Monday night. Their defense should eat him alive. However, we don’t know who Pittsburgh’s starting QB will be at this point. I would bet them right now if I knew Justin Fields would be playing. Russell Wilson is too much of an unknown to trust at this point.
