Tennessee Titans +8 at Houston Texans

It’s unusual for an NFL team to be this close to Thanksgiving while having only covered one spread the entire season. After all, the spread is the great equalizer. But the Titans have managed to do just that, with a cover over the Dolphins in Week 3 as their only ATS triumph. They look to double that tally this week, as they are ‘dogs to the Texans. While the wins and the covers haven’t been there for the Titans, there are signs of improvement. Will Levis has thrown 3 TDs and 1 INT over his last two starts, with 475 yards combined against the Vikings and Chargers. Those two games also saw the Titans outgain their opponents in terms of yards per play, making that four straight games they’ve done so. The Titans are near the top of the league defensively in yards per play allowed and yards per carry allowed, while the Texans are near the bottom in allowing sacks. A good defensive line vs. a shaky offensive line, and getting over a touchdown vs. a team off of a short week. Maybe the Titans finally secure their elusive second cover of the season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Win NFC South +350

The Bucs were off last week but still picked up ground on the first-place Falcons, who were buried 34-6 by the Broncos. The Bucs have another chance to inch closer this weekend, as they are 6-point favorites against the Giants. Meanwhile, the Falcons have their bye week. When the Falcons return to action on December 1st, they have a game against the Chargers and a road game against the Vikings waiting for them. The Bucs have home games against the Saints and Raiders remaining, as well as two games with the Panthers and a game vs. the inept Cowboys. The Bucs are 5-6, while the Falcons are 6-4 and own the tiebreaker, so there is work to do, but the respective schedules may give the Bucs an opening to climb back and steal the division title.

BONUS COLLEGE FOOTBALL BEST BET:

Indiana +10.5 at Ohio State

The Hoosiers are off of a bye. For two weeks, they have heard the debates about how much they’re going to lose by when they visit Ohio State and if they’re still worthy of making the CFP when they do lose. There is bulletin board material abound for Indiana coach Curt Cignetti, who is likely to be named National Coach of the Year in a few weeks, while Cignetti has had additional time to prepare for this game. Sure, the Hoosiers haven’t played the most challenging schedule, but they have dominated teams. They’re undefeated and have an average margin of victory of over 25 points per game, third best in the country. Ohio State is now without starting Seth McLaughlin, which could be a huge loss going against a very good Indiana defensive line. Ohio State is among the best teams in the country, maybe the best, but this new era of college football has led to more parity, and we don’t see the same level of dominance from the elite teams as we have in years past. I’m betting on Indiana to hang around and stay within the number.
