Tennessee Titans +6 at Washington Commanders
The Titans finally rewarded their tortured backers last week, as they covered for just the second time this season. That cover came as they won outright as 8-point ‘dogs against the Texans, winning 32-27, and allowing just 12 first downs all game. The Titans are still one of the best defenses in the league in yards per play allowed, ranking third at 4.8, and take on a Commanders team near the bottom of the league in yards per carry allowed. A ‘dog that plays good defense, a favorite that is bad against the run, I’ll take the 6 and fade the struggling Commanders.
Week 13 NFL Best Bet: Tennessee Titans +6
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers +6
The Panthers host the Buccaneers in an NFC South matchup, and they are coming off of a game where they took the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Chiefs down to the wire. The Panthers fell just short of winning their third straight game, a sentence that would have seemed impossible to comprehend at the beginning of the season. Quarterback Bryce Young is playing the best ball of his career and is coming off of his best performance: 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and 7.5 yards per attempt. The Bucs were just laying 6 to Tommy DeVito and the hapless Giants. Should they really be laying the same number to a suddenly competent Panthers team? I’ll take the points and find out.Â
Week 13 NFL Best Bet: Carolina Panthers +6
Los Angeles Chargers at Atlanta Falcons +1
This one isn’t pretty, as the Falcons haven’t looked like a playoff team in recent weeks, but perhaps that makes this a good buy-low opportunity. The situation certainly favors them, if nothing else. They take on a Chargers team that just played on Monday night in LA, in a hyped-up, emotional game in the battle of Harbaugh brothers. They now travel on a short week, and take on a rested Falcons team that’s coming off of a bye and was completely embarrassed the last time out in a 34-6 loss to the Broncos. I’ll take the rested home team getting a point here.
Week 13 NFL Best Bet: Atlanta Falcons +1
San Francisco 49ers at Buffalo Bills -6
It looks like 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is good to go against the Bills on Sunday night, but teammates Trent Williams and Nick Bosa are not. This 49ers team simply looks old, tired, and beat up from their recent runs to the Super Bowl and NFC Title Games the last handful of years. Yes, Purdy playing is a positive, but he has been battling a sore throwing shoulder and now heads into Buffalo, where he’ll have to throw in inclement weather- not an easy task for a quarterback who isn’t known for his arm strength to begin with. I don’t like backing teams who had championship aspirations when it’s nearing the end of what is a lost season. Despite the talent and their past success, this is not the 49ers powerhouse we’re used to, the 6 is cheap, and I’m happy to lay less than a touchdown.Â
